The study entitled, “Icelandic Nurses' Beliefs, Skills, and Resources Associated with Evidence‐Based Practice and Related Factors: A National Survey” provides the researcher with additional insight with respect to the way in which some of the known barriers to research implementation within the field of nursing can be overcome.  In this manner, the use of evidence-based practice is reviewed in terms of how it is employed within different cultures and utilized to draw wide inferences within the field of nursing.  The broader applicability of this is quite large; due in part to the fact that evidence-based practice is coming to represent more and more of the means by which actionable medical knowledge is derived.  Moreover, as the researchers indicated, the continually growing body of medical knowledge has created vast resources that are oftentimes intimidating for the individual healthcare professional to integrate with.  Although it is largely agreed that such a process of medical review of journals and studies would indeed be a best practice, the fact of the matter is that such individuals are much more likely to seek to draw on the experience of their peers; thereby leveraging a level of evidence-based practice within individual healthcare institutions.  The universal inference that can be drawn from this has to do with the fact that EBP (evidence-based practice) will likely become an even larger mechanism through which medical knowledge is shared and derived.  However, with this being said, it continues to face key challenges with respect to scope and limitations; due in part to the increasingly insular way in which EBP is employed and understood within different medical cultures.

Similarly, the Breimaier et al. (2011) article, entitled, “Nurses’ wishes, knowledge, attitudes and perceived barriers on implementing research findings into practice among graduate nurses in Austria”, focuses on the increased risk that potential bias from research personnel, specifical nurses, can impact upon the research process and the means by which nursing practice is employed.  Naturally, the authors of the piece conclude that bias is an expected reality of any process; however, the role that stakeholders have in crafting the research questions and the means by which research is gathered and data points effected by nursing personnel is essential in seeking to reflect the overall potential for this to affect the quality of care.  However, perhaps most importantly, the authors of this particular piece seek to question the way in which the wishes of an individual nurse and/or the way in which they seek to utilize the information that is presented within a particular piece of research fundamentally changes the way in which research and practice are affected.  As pointed out by the scholars, this is an essential barrier to greater levels of care being provided to the patient.  In this way, even though countless studies are put forward and quality research is presented to the medical community each and every year, the means by which this is implemented and applied is broadly different than might be expected and/or hoped for. Yet, as the authors point out, the blame does not lie squarely at the feet of nursing professionals; this is due in part to the fact that the researchers noted that inadequate organizational support created an unwelcoming environment for medical research and best practices to be implemented directly from academia.
