Extract of sample "Becoming a Professional Nurse"

"Becoming a Professional Nurse" is a decent example of a paper on care.
All my life I have had a passion for becoming a healthcare practitioner. As a young person, I felt that taking care of the sick, saving lives, and taking care of the old aged as the most amazing things any person could ever do in his or her days of light and therefore all I ever dreamed of as a young person was to work in a health facility where I could practice this. As I grew up, I came to realize it was not as easy as I thought and that I needed some training to adequately perform my duties. I decided to pursue a career in nursing and be among the most qualified nurses in the world so that I could be able to take care of human lives at the most vulnerable stages of life; birth and death. I felt that human lives should come and leave this world with a lot of dignity. This paper critically evaluates my desire to become not just a nurse but a professional nurse.

Becoming a professional nurse and pursuing a BS in nursing

I chose to be a professional nurse for I felt that there is a need to start handling patients professionally in different medical facilities across the world. Also, by being a profession, I will not just be a licensed practical nurse but a registered nurse. Being a registered nurse means that I have trained in a number of different health care settings there are in the world and I need no supervision from other physicians to adequately perform my duties. In fact, a registered nurse supervises licensed practical nurses.  Different researches by different scholars have as well revealed that professionalism in nursing has become the next crucial target to be attained in different medical facilities of the world. For this reason, I felt that I should be a part of a team of professions who will be certainly transforming the health sector of the world not only in efficiency and effectiveness but also on issues of accountability.

Challenges of professional nurses

There are still a number of problems that are currently facing the professional nurses of the world and I expect to still face similar challenges in my career as a professional nurse. First, even though professional nurses have changed how patients are handled in different healthcare facilities of the world today, several patients, doctors, and even physicians still do not respect professional nurses as equal professionals. This has quite been discouraging to most professional nurses of the world and has made it difficult for them to deliver. Secondly, there is a growing concern that the professional nurses of the world are not adequately prepared by the kind of courses they undertake in the respective colleges and universities of the world (Curtis, 2013). Different medics, therefore, feel that professional nurses are half-baked. Lastly, acquiring the medical license to become a registered nurse has also in the recent past become quite a difficult task and has involved cases of bribery and collusion (Curtis, 2013).

Planning to handle these challenges

First, I plan to undertake several internships in between my coursework, and once I am through with my studies so as to adequately practice the acquired knowledge in the field of medicine in different organizational setups. Secondly, I plan to really work hard and make sure I practice professionalism in all my responsibilities as a professional nurse regardless of the critics I will be facing in my workplace. Lastly, I will also work hard in school to make sure that I stand a better chance of acquiring a medical license.

Conclusion

The field of professional nursing is quite new in the health sector and that is the main reason why it is facing quite disturbing challenges. Nevertheless, professional nurses have a positive side to focus on; they have adequately enhanced the transformation of various health sectors of the world and within no time different persons will start to appreciate the role they play and for this to be adequately achieved, they need to be patient.
