Extract of sample "Leadership in Health Care Organizations Practicum"

"Leadership in Health Care Organizations Practicum" is a perfect example of a paper on care. To ensure each individual close to me feels well served, I normally value him or her irrespective of which position he or he may be holding. They include both patients and nurses whereby the latter together we normally undertake varied tasks in the nursing field especially where I work with them as a team but not like my own competitors. Hence, entailing that I exercise keen listening coupled with developing skills of others meant to ensure quality service (Sturm, 2009). Since this is what will encourage them to contribute as necessitated and feel belonging to the team that we may be undertaking certain tasks together. In addition, listening to others keenly or activity will motivate them to express themselves coupled with feeling valued in each decision the healthcare facility will be preparing to devise. Hence, prompting them to develop a heightened commitment in their respective areas (Sturm, 2009).

To the patients, I try to embrace a heightened understanding regarding what they are experiencing for their main purpose is being healed of whatever they are suffering. Understanding in this case is from a holistic angle, entailing that I consider myself a steward in each task I undertake. Since I am aware besides focusing on ensuring patients’ earthly wholeness, the expertise I have belongs to God who expects me to use it well not to boast with but serve Him through others (Sturm, 2009). Therefore, my core focus is all about growth for all people I interact with for them to feel valued besides motivated to give their best in their respective capacities. Since this is what will transform the entire healthcare and those I am serving not feeling I am just after the rewards and prestige that comes with being a nurse. Consequently, ensure resources entitled to me and those of the entire team I work with serving the right purpose and eventually ensure quality services. This acceptably aligns well with what the servant-leadership paradigm dictates instead of me as an expert busying myself with realizing my petty interests over what the nursing field expects from my team and me.

  • How does the issue of serving differ from the secular view of power?

Servant leader exclusively relies on the individual’s power to persuade in influencing other people instead of the dictatorial view, which the latter characterizes secular acuity of power (Ebener, 2010). The secular view deems power is more of one having a recognized position, which laws normally protect through compelling subjects to utter compliance. Conversely, serving derives its power from actions by the leaders being at the forefront with the intention of their own followers to emulate them (Ebener, 2010).  This also acts as persuasion contrary to the secular view holds placing followers in front and compelling them through fear of compliance. Hence, being more of a “boss-servant” affair instead of the leading serving the lesser and setting standard through actions, which the followers ought to take as a basis (Ebener, 2010).
