"My Personal Nursing Philosophy" is a wonderful example of a paper on care. Nursing focuses on the care of individuals and their families and prevention of illness so that they may attain and maintain optimal health and quality of life.  Many changes that deal with the way health care is delivered and how nursing is taught have helped the growth and development of the nursing profession as it is today.  One thing that has not changed is the way nurses maintain a high level of care in their everyday practice.  Caring, nursing, and my personal nursing philosophy are in direct correlation to each other.

Philosophy has to do with one's principles and concepts.  My personal philosophy has always been to be respectful, trustworthy, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate.  As nurses, we need to be able to comfort and care for our patients and their families.  In order to provide holistic and efficient care, we must concern ourselves with the help of the whole person. This includes the context in which the person lives. This practice helps meet the nursing care needs of the patients by encompassing the four meta paradigms of nursing.  The goals of nursing care to provide high-level wellness and assist our patients in attaining and maintaining an optimal state of health.  As a Case Manager, I help the patients reach this level by providing them with the appropriate providers and resources throughout the continuum of health and human services (“Definition and Philosophy of Case Management,” 2015).

In order to properly care for a patient, nurses must be knowledgeable in medical terms, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, disease, and disease process.  This includes implementing a care plan using the nursing process. As registered nurses, we need to have leadership encompasses the ability to take control of a situation, enlist the help of available team members, and accomplish the common goal of meeting patients’ needs (Frankel, 2011). Competence: use advanced knowledge and research skills to effectively diagnose and treat patients. Caring: patient advocacy, integrating the family into patient care planning (Rhodes et al, 2011). Professionalism: using acquired skills and knowledge in daily practice while incorporating nursing core values to meet patient needs.

On the other hand, nursing is so much more than just the knowledge of medical scientific data.  Nurses take care of patients from every walk of life.  Patients must trust that the nurse is going to be compassionate, fulfills their emotional dispositions, and communicates their plan of care in a basic, skillful, and respectful way.  It requires complete human devotion to the patient.  This is what’s called the art of nursing, which entails being able to connect with patients in both a professional and trustworthy manner while being both firm and tender at the same time.  This is what encompasses my nursing philosophy.
