My current objective is to do summer work at the retail outlets and stores to get a first hand feel of the marketing job. To this I will add my own efforts in such manner that in the next 6 years I will work my way to an MBA Degree in sale and international marketing. However the company I target Cocoa Cola, has stopped employing minors. I will start by trying at a retail store. When I become qualified and competent in the next five years I shall seek a permanent post in the international division of a company of my choice. I will take up challenging responsibilities in the marketing department. I intend to reach the apex of the department in my career, or become regarded as capable for the post in the Industry. My objectives are specific because I have set my long term goals on the company of my choice. I am specific on my career roles and aim at reaching the apex in the chart in course of my career. My success can be measured against the work performance. No doubt for a young person the ambition is challenging and daunting because I have three more steps, Learning , modeling and getting qualified with a degree in a six year period, which is time specific. Personal background: I have interpersonal skills in communicating and am an extrovert. I like travel, meeting new people and making friends. I also like to exchange views and actively promote clubs in which I am a member and also like to discuss products and consumables and the opinions of my friends. I also will take up a bachelor and masters program in the area to qualify further. Company History I wish to work for the Cocoa Cola company in the International marketing division and work my way to the top. I like the company because they have genuinely diversified and become a company that offers equal rights and prospects. Further they are into charity and social development. Cocoa Cola is a representative product of the U.S. and is an ambassador of love. Furthering Coke is like furthering the whole U.S. If I am successful in marketing and proving my mettle at the organization that faces tough competition from international giants like Pepsi, I will become tough and a better executive. The lessons I learn may come handy when I wish to begin an enterprise on my own. I will be able to learn about consumer marketing, retail marketing and direct marketing with this company than any other. It will also give me an international exposure. Key Facts on Cocoa Cola: The facts in brief on the company are from their website. Important sections relating to their policies have been quoted verbatim where ever taken from any source. I have interpersonal skills in communicating and am an extrovert. I like travel, meeting new people and making friends. I also like to exchange views and actively promote clubs in which I am a member and also like to discuss products and consumables and the opinions of my friends. I succeed in convincing my acquaintances and suggest better bargains. I am therefore convinced that I can make a career in Marketing and Sales. Further I have studied the market for soft drinks with keen interest and am one of the Cocoa Cola enthusiasts. Knowing the product, its values and the environment I work for, I think I will be a great Sales Manager in future. I also will take up a bachelor and masters program in the area to qualify further. 2. If you have chosen sales and marketing as a career, what are your ambitions? When I become qualified and competent in the next five years I shall seek a permanent post in the international division of a company of my choice. I will take up challenging responsibilities in the marketing department. I intend to reach the apex of the department in my career, or become regarded as capable for the post in the Industry. I wish to work for the Cocoa Cola company in the International marketing division and work my way to the top. Cocoa Cola is a representative product of the U.S. I will become tough and a better executive. The lessons I learn may come handy in getting overseas assignment or reaching the top of the division. 3. What would you do if you faced rejection? Have you faced rejection and overcome it? Every marketing executive begins with a handful of rejections. I am aware of that. In life too we face rejections. We get rejected in dating, ball games and so on. But life still goes on. We try to achieve. Rejections may mean that the customer was not receptive at that moment. I will go back again. Or I will review my own performance and find the flaws. I will take the help of my peers and mentors and see that I improve. I shall take a rejection as an opportunity to further my character. I have faced rejection in play fields and some times with friends. I overcame them by thinking about them objectively and finding alternates. 4. According to you, what are the major hurdles that can be faced by our territory sales manager in your area? The competition form rivals like Pepsi is a major factor. The space quotient in shelves for our product in the supermarket is another. The most important thing to consider is the incentives we can offer the retailer to promote our product. I feel that while advertising on a national level is quite good, retail level campaigns have to be stepped up with more incentives so that we get more shelf and display space. 5. If you were to redefine the product Fanta, considering the controversy around it, what will be your answer? There is no controversy on Fanta. Fanta is a great drink manufactured first in Germany by the company’s representative. It has nothing to do with the government of those times. The directors did not participate in parties or any criminal activity. Fanta was and is a great international drink, and example of how this company can survive and look after its employees in very trying circumstances. 6. What is your concept of community work? Have you been involved in any community work? Yes, I was a member of the ‘plant a tree’ project at school. I also did work for the ‘disabled’ and red cross society. My concept of community work is where as a whole a village or street gathers its resources to create harmony. In my neighbor hood we had a city – clean program where we try to keep our streets clean. I understand that this company is involved world over in water shed management. 7. What is the peculiarity in selling soft drinks? What can you say about our products? One thing it is a market that is overcrowded, and the consumer is from diverse background age and sex. The preference for each is different. Under these conditions, we have the option of retaining our vast market which may be eaten away if we are not active, and also get people who are switching from other drinks like alcohol to try it as a substitute. We can introduce it in places where it has not been marketed before. 8. Are you comfortable with strangers? Do you meet new people a lot? Yes I travel with my family on vacation a lot. I meet new people and children and youth of my age often. I have maintained contacts with most of them and my friends circle is ever widening. 9. Describe the last time you met someone new to you and asked for something? We had a fund raising activity for our church recently and I had the responsibility of collecting form my area. Near by a new family had moved in and I learned that they were from Russia and settled there. They were total strangers and were suspicious and uncommunicative. However I got over the initial gap and managed to not only collect the donation but bring the family to church and mainstream. Even now I get invited to their vodka parties. 10. What are the qualities required for a sales manager for our type of company? The manager must know his territory and be willing to travel, interact with teams and retailers from diverse back grounds, have team spirit and focus on expansion with optimism and must have integrity and character. Especially for this company the manager must have a very clear idea of the local culture, wants and feelings of the society. Since the product and company both depend on this key issue.
