This study explores the history of television briefly and analyzes the effects of TV programs on small kids. TV portrays a certain class of people as refined and decent while it strictly discriminates others. Television has always been blamed to induce violence among the children. Various surveys conducted on the topic over the years prove the same. The second part of the essay analyzes the talk shows, their history and how they play a prominent role in shaping the opinions of the individuals regarding culture, politics and art.

It also questions whether it is just to induce this mass opinion on any topic. The final part of the essay explores the impact of television ads and how even the most traditional parts of the world are influenced by them. An example of a study conducted about canned food in Jordan market is quoted. It questions whether a good TV advertisement alone is sufficient for the success of a product in the market and underlines how the frequent appearance of low quality products mesmerize the public paving way for its high sales.

The paper explores the massive growth of the Pepsi and Coke in the third world countries. It pin points how their advertisements crashed the local cool drinks and traditional drinks market in the developing nations in a very short time. The paper comes up with strong recommendations for the parents, children and the TV viewers in general to defend themselves against the ill effects and addictive nature of the television sets and use them in an appropriate way to enhance their knowledge and get quality recreation.

Introduction The history of television is a very long and fascinating one. Most of us who spend hours in front of the television set everyday do not have any idea how its programs impact our day to day behaviour directly and indirectly. Television is one of the most powerful media used in the modern times. The talk shows, advertisements, movies and news aired in the television set plays a vital role in shaping the public opinion about an incident. Nearly 48 million television sets are sold worldwide every year.

There are millions of people working in the TV stations and the various entertainment industries associated with it. If we consider banning TV completely, nearly 4 billion people associated with advertising, acting, technology and TV programs production will lose their jobs. Television sets not only entertain us, but act as a life source for numerous people around the world. Televised violence is a huge issue of concern for both the adults and the children as it is the biggest media watched as a family.

History of Television – From Mechanical TV’s to Smart TV’s It is said that Paul Nipkow was the person behind the introduction of the television technology. His rotating disks were the base of creating mechanical television sets way back in 1884. Nipkow's scanning device dissected the images and transmitted them in a sequence, creating continuous pictures. John Baird created a much sophisticated mechanical television set in the 1920's based on the Nipkows disk. This model paved way for the modern television sets which we used today.

The electronic television sets, which were much more advanced than the mechanical television boxes were developed by Germans in the 1920s. John Baird and Clarence W.Hansell where the first people to patent the idea of television set and start broadcasting programs commercially. Their model altered the design of the Nipkow's disk slightly by replacing backlit silhouettes with light reflection. Electronic TV sets using cathode ray tubes (CRT) were introduced by Karl Ferdinand Braun way back in 1987.

But it was the Russian scientists Vladimir Zworykin and Boris Rosing, who made it famous in the 1920s. Television technolog
