Which way to the Weir? Which way to the Weir? This play exemplifies Aristotle’s unities of action, place, and time in an authentic manner. I think this play is amazing since it does not have a plot per se but it shows what is happening between the three men and a woman who has purchased a house in the area. Her appearance at the bar depicts ghost stories. One ghost story is about the house that the woman bought, and the second one concerns the reasons that brought this civilized city woman in rural Ireland.

From Aristotle’s perspective, a play has to have unity of place, which restricts it to one place. For instance, it is centered at a local bar on a farm in Ireland As seen in this play, it is limited in rural Ireland thus strictly adhering to Aristotle’s views. In addition, unity of time is well represented in this play in that we see that the visiting woman has to buy a house in rural Ireland where she will stay. There is no much action as Aristotle proposed a play should have because when visiting local areas you do not boast about it.

More so, too much activity during story telling could not disseminate information. It is important that production follow rhythms, flow, and prevent extraneous work. If this were included in the play, it would have positively affected the play since it can only work on the radio but not on stage where gestures and other physical expressions have a great impact. Jim Norton produces an outstanding performance as he plays the role of Jack who insists that he does not regret why he married but in some sense, he shows regret.

This reveals Aristotle’s argument about time that should be well presented in the play just as Jim Norton showed. Finbar and Valerie also did well in their parts while Fairley showed sign of sadness and pity even before the astonishing and anguishing ghost story. This play is sad, sweet, and interesting, and it concerns the lack of serious relationships, regrets, and missed connections, which haunts us later in our lives.ReferenceMcPherson, C. (1999).
