Journal on Waste Management Waste management is the prevention, generation, recycling, handling and treatment of solid waste. Mostly human beings and human activity produce the solid waste. Waste management is a process that is aimed at reducing or completely eradicating the effect of solid waste on the environment, the health and the aesthetics of a place. In our study of the intrapreneurship of the waste management organization, we looked at the many issues that faced the company and how they handled it in order to come up with a detailed analysis of the organization.

The waste management company, just like many waste management companies has a wide range of intrapreneurship issues facing it. They include; Waste minimization – this term refers to the way and processes that are undertaken to reduce the amount of waste in the garbage sites. The company has 262 solid wasteland fill sites. This means that it has a wide area to minimize the amount of garbage that finds itself into the garbage collection sites. This company therefore has to organize a way that this garbage will not stay in the site for long, which can both be harzoudous to the environment and the health of people and animals living around it.

Waste minimization can be done through reusing and recycling of products both directly and indirectly (Waste Management, 1). Generation of waste – this term refers to the way, processes and activities that lead to a lot of wastes in the garbage sites. This generally goes beyond the intrapreneurship of the company. This is because it is the people who through many activities and processes that generate this wastes. The company relies of the people and this processes in order to survive. The people have also to cooperate in the places they dispose the wastes so that it can be easily collected (Waste Management, 1).

Recycling and reusing – this refers to the way the waste materials are turned into useful materials that can be used again as new materials and also how this waste materials can be made into new products that are useful in other ways. The company has invested in recycling facilities and in plants that turns the waste collected into energy. This recycling facility ensures that all products that are collected in the garbage sites become useful again to the people. Some products cannot be recycled again but can be turned to other useful products.

This constitutes the processes of reusing the products. The waste materials and the leftovers that come out of the waste products can also be converted to energy products that can be used by the company for its processes or also can be made available to other people and become useful to the community (Waste Management, 1). Storage collection, transport and transfer- this refers to how the waste materials are collected from the garbage site and taken to a place where they are recycled and reused and the mode of transport used to transfer this materials from the garbage site to the place of recycle.

The company has a total of 300 transfer stations and 15 medical waste transfer stations. The company provides plastic bags to the people for garbage collection and has many garbage collection sites. This enables the company to manage garbage collection and makes it easy for them to collect. It has also employed many people in the garbage collection. The company has purchased a lot of trucks that enable the company to effectively collect the garbage and sort it out so that it can fit into the many recycling sites.

With over 27 million customers, the company has to well develop these activities so that they can serve all these customers effectively (Waste Management, 1). Treatment – this refers to how the waste materials are managed to make them useful again, it refers to the mode and processes of recycling of the waste materials. The company for example recycles plastics. These plastics are heated and turned to other products mostly other plastic products. The company has come up with an energy plan to generate energy from the waste materials that is used in the recycling and the reusing of the plastics.

This energy also helps in the treatment of other waste products collected in the company. Also in this process, it has collaborated with other companies for manufacturing, recycling, reusing of products so that it can be able to effectively manage all the garbage collected, and that the company can complement them in the treatment of these products (Waste Management, 1). Environmental considerations – when the materials are collected, transported and recycled to the same products or other products, the environment has to be first analyzed and the materials determined whether they have a positive impact to the environment or not.

In this case, the environment refers to the people, animals and the earth as a whole. Some waste might be eco friendly therefore do not need recycling, others are harmful to the environment, and therefore this are the wastes that the company is endeavoring to recycle. In other cases, the process of making new products may be harmful to the environment therefore the company is looking at ways of reducing the production of such items by recycling and reusing the products. The company has waste to energy facilities.

These facilities are able to process more than 22,300 tons of solid waste in a single day. This means a lot in the management of the environment. And also it has established its own Eco friendly garbage pits and collection facilities that enable it to comply with the environmental needs for a sustainable environment (Waste Management, 1). Policy and regulations – policies and regulation are an important factor in the setting up of waste management company. Intraprenural policies involve the number of people to be employed, the products to be recycled, the means of transport to be used, the management of the wastes and the final products and the management of the waste management company.

The company has also set up policies that have enabled them to collaborate with other companies and organizations in order to effectively manage all the waste that is collected. Such include companies for production of food. These policies also help in the management of the dump sites set up by the company, the production of energy by the company and how it is distributed to other consumers. The products that are produced needs to be regulated and how they reach the market are ways that need regulations.

The company therefore has come up with a guideline that has detailed information, rules and regulations on each step of the waste management and all these are required to be followed. These regulations are in line with set up rules and regulations of the land that the company is mandated to follow (Waste Management, 1). Education and training – this is a very important factor in the waste management company. Training is important in areas of garbage collection, garbage transportation and transfer, recycling and reusing, and the transfer of the waste products.

With the dynamic needs of the people and the dynamic world when it comes to health issues, the company has to undertake a lot of training to its workers to ensure that they are well suited to their job. Education is an important factor to the management of the company. With the many branches it has, the leaders of the branches must be trained in waste management in order to be effective in their work. This will also help in the management of the company and policymaking. They also will be able to be involved in research of new products that can be used from the waste they collect.

Also new ways that save on cost of recycling and reusing will be able to be implemented (Waste Management, 1). Planning and implementation – this is the most important part of the company as planning will enable the company be effective in the management of the waste products. Planning starts from the lowest person and operation in the company to the highest person and operation in the company. Planning in the company will enable the company manage its resources well and properly. In addition, investment in the company and collaboration with other companies will be made effective.

Implementation involves the processes and the actual work that makes these policies to be effectively carried out and be used to take the company a step higher (Waste Management, 1). In conclusion, the waste management company has a role in the management of waste products. The internal structure of the company is important in making its policies effective. The internal organization needs to be analyzed in order to improve it. Work Cited “Waste Management.’’ Solutions For A Changing World: Thomson Reuters. 2010.
