Q Ans. In his first experience John has served as an acting lead foodservice utility worker as well as a large kitchen’s evening closer in a lunch service cafe. Effective coordination was one of the main skills that were needed to perform his responsibilities successfully in this role. John had to coordinate the final dishwashing and the cleaning of kitchen to the workers. In addition to these responsibilities, John also served as the evening closer and assumed the responsibility of resetting the kitchen before the start of the next business day.

Performing such a job successfully requires good coordination and administrative skills which John exhibited. John’s second experience also reflects a growing leadership experience because in his second experience, John served as the front operator at a distribution center in the automated assembly line. The purpose of this automated assembly line was to pack the final products so that they could be merchandized. John would use his computer terminal to step up the automated assembly line from the position of rest to the position of production at every shift’s commencement.

He also needed to ensure that the automated assembly line was stepped back to rest during breaks and at the shift’s end. Performing these responsibilities carefully required good time management and administrative skills which are some of the most fundamental skills needed to be a good leader. John’s third experience also demonstrates a growing leadership experience. As a result of his participation in the political party’s state convention and being part of the delegation, John was recruited for a candidate development school during the state convention because of which, he was given the training to act on behalf of the regional and local candidates as a liaison between the key stakeholders and the campaign staff.

Performing such a job successfully requires very good oratory and presentation skills in addition to strength and determination to take the criticism and use it constructively to improve oneself. Q. 2: Ans. Of the three experiences, one that is particularly important is that in which John participate in the state convention of the political party because the number of people he had to deal with serving as a liaison between the campaign staff and the stakeholders was substantially larger than that in any other experience.

John has to speak, listen, and write very frequently in order to execute this job successfully. “Perhaps the most important set of skills a politician can possess is the ability to write, to speak, and to listen” (Hamilton. 2009). John’s leadership skills would be polished a lot as a result of daily interaction with a lot of people of different backgrounds and in different contexts. This role has given John influence over the community which he can use to bring a positive change; “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has” (Mead cited in Sergiovanni, 1995, p. 29). John’s previous experiences have provided him with platforms to develop his leadership skills which would benefit him in his third experience.
