MANAGING AND AVOIDING BARRIERS TO COMMUNICATION Managing and Avoiding Barriers to Communication Affiliation Table of Content What is effective communication? 4 Communication Barriers 4 Perceptual Barrier 4 Personal barriers 5 Physical barriers 6 Semantic barriers 7 Conclusion 7 References 8 Introduction It is an admitted fact that language plays a significant role in communication. However, every person has different point of view some believe that efficient communication is really simple to attain inside an organization.

And some people say it is a hectic process which involves certain complex issues and barriers. Moreover these difficulties sometimes create huge problems within an organization (ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Locker & Kaczmarek, 2003; Thill & Bovee, 1997). Although, effective communication takes place only when we realize these difficulties and without realizing them we cannot make ourselves proficient and smooth. We can accomplish these hurdles by considering it challenging as it is not the hardest thing in the world.

In fact, effective and admirable role in some workplace demands efficient communication. It comes only when we omit certain obstacles and barriers from our personal communication. It not only looks significant but also makes us an efficient worker or administrator. In addition, it is good to study understand these barriers. Also how a person can deal with these hurdles and manage them in an efficient way (ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Locker & Kaczmarek, 2003; Thill & Bovee, 1997). This essay presents a detailed analysis of some of the primary aspects.

This research also outlines various communicational barriers along with strategies to manage them in a smooth way. What is effective communication? Effective communication has its own importance. If we want to communicate in an effective manner or we do want to exchange messages among a group of people we need to ensure the message has been transferred and understood by the other people. If we want to realize the significance, proper utilization and value of hurdles to effectual communication it can help us examine the barriers in effective communication.

If we want to know whether our communication has been understood by other person or listener we can easily judge it through the answer of listener. If the responded answer is appropriate then it means that the communication is effective (Self-Esteem-Enhances-Life, 2012; The UeeKa Project Global, 2011). Communication Barriers Given below are some of the major communication barriers: (ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Locker & Kaczmarek, 2003; Thill & Bovee, 1997) 1. Process barriers 2. Perceptual barriers 3.

Physical barriers 4. Semantic barriers Perceptual Barrier Another interruption in effective communication is known as perceptual barrier. This is considered to be one of the most vital issues. It happens due to our personal attributes. In addition, it can be easily spread through our cultural background, our living standards, our speaking style, our persona and emotional linkages. In this scenario, other people can analyze our emotion and ideas what we want to say without clarifying the main aspects of discussion.

That is why whenever this occurs; communication becomes useless and results in conflicts (ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Locker & Kaczmarek, 2003; Thill & Bovee, 1997; Bappi, 2011). In order to overcome these barriers, I will make sure things are clarified before negative reaction. Being a manager, the inspection of professionals would be my chief responsibility. In this scenario, I will hire an appropriate person on the job. After selection of a person I would also arrange necessary training for employees.

This sort of training may include aspects like voice and accent usage. In addition, I will make sure that essential strategies and support program for employees are clear enough (Managementstudyguide, 2012; Thill & Bovee, 1997). Personal barriers Another important communicational barrier is personal barrier. Usually it happens during communication when a person tries to transfer his message but cannot do so. This can be due to unheard language or due to personal aspects, health problems or due to some psychological issues (Graham, 2005; ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Bappi, 2011).

I will avoid such kind of issues. In this scenario, organizational structures play a significant role in communication. Sometimes complex hierarchy may create barriers in effective communication. In fact in complex hierarchical levels employee may get confused by superiors and also from juniors. In this scenario, simpler managerial arrangement leads towards effective communication (Managementstudyguide, 2012; Thill & Bovee, 1997). I will establish a friendly environment so that employees could easily transfer their ideas without any hesitation.

I would also launch a language training program to improve the language skills of my staff members. Physical barriers A physical barrier exits when staff members are from different localities and from diverse places. There are also numerous aspects involved in this kind of barrier such as old machinery, no use of innovative technology and lack of managerial factor. Many other significant aspects include absence of proper environment required for an organization. In fact, small features like proper temperature, absence of stationary, noisy environment may affect effectual communication (Graham, 2005; ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012; Bappi, 2011).

In order to overcome above mentioned barriers I would implement a physical communication arrangement in my organization. The use of one to one meetings for business issues discussion will offer an excellent support for overall communication inside the business arrangement. Currently application of video conferencing based communication tools also offers an excellent support to resolve and overcome all the above listed communication barriers. I would also launch a training program to train the staff members regarding these issues.

Semantic barriers Another vital communicational barrier is semantic barrier. As name implies, the difficulty we usually face when a group of people are communicating in same language but still they are using wrong wording. Due to this speaker cannot send his message to listener in proper tone. Semantic barriers include (Bappi, 2011; Graham, 2005; ImportanceOfCommunication, 2012) 1. Incorrect wording 2. Usage of symbolic terms 3. Special words and phrases which are used by particular groups of people In order to resolve these issues, I would focus on the usage of apparent and trouble free language in my organization.

In order to minimize barriers the usage of special words would be restricted. I would offer a training program for employees. Conclusion It is an admitted fact that language plays a significant role in communication. However every person has its own point of view some believe that efficient communication is really simple to attain inside an organization. But some have their own point of view. According to them it is a hectic process which involves certain complex issues and barriers. Moreover these difficulties sometimes create huge problems within a workplace or in some organization.

This research has outlined some of the important issues we face during communication either in workplace or in a group of people.
