The paper "Diversity and Multiculturalism at General Electric" is a good example of an essay on business. My research began with checking General Electric’s website where I found out that the organization has largely observed diversity and multiculturalism due to the workforce comprised of the company. Additionally, research conducted by Nancherla, (2008) is evident and General Electric initiated an aggressive diversity strategy led by CEO Welch Jack, which includes employee networks, formal mentoring, planning regular forums, as well as, recruiting at college levels with the large minority populations. Additionally, the organization appointed a new chief to diversify officer Elam Deborah (Nancherla, 2008). The organization's minority, gender, and non-U.S citizen demographics grew by twelve percent between 2005 and 2000, which entailed officers and eleven percent senior executives. Black Enterprises confirmed this position in July 2005 after contacting GE’s diversity contact Howery Steven the Diversity Program Manager. He claimed that General electric Co. was a leader in the transformation of imaginative ideas into important services and products. The organization owns assets approximately five hundred billion dollars serving in forty-seven countries globally. Therefore, GE’s diversity commitment is intertwined throughout the organization's culture.

Additionally, we found out that the organization comprised of a number of African-American board members who included Fudge Ann, a chairwoman and the Chief Executive Officer of the Young 8c Rubicam Brands, as well as an associate of the BE’S list that comprised of the Most Powerful Business Women. I also found out from the book that Cash James Jr., one of the directors at Microsoft Corp. was among the board members. This earned the organization a position among the best-diversified organization globally.

Further research on the company’s website revealed that the organization’s core values and mission did not directly speak with respect to multiculturalism or diversity. However, drilling down on the research we found out that there was a detailed report on diversity, which entailed a list of recognition and awards, information regarding the company’s diversity council, a non-discrimination policy of the organization, as well as, data on the representation by gender, ethnicity, and race. Additionally, the website consists of a speech given publicly by the officer in charge of diversity on the necessity of diversity in the organization. Next, we largely focused on the leadership of GE and found out that it consisted of twenty corporate officers whereby four were women. Additionally, I checked on the CEO report regarding diversity whereby he confirmed that the right way to do business is through diversity (Nancherla, 2008). He claimed that the organization is committed to employing a diverse workforce that entails the most innovative mind from all over the world. He claims that the effort originates from the classroom and immediately students look upon to GE as a potential employer due to its diversity.

Additionally, after going through GE’s website I found out that the organization promotes and develops talent and offers employees a sense of belonging through mentorship. The diversity officer claims that these groups and networks are mainly dedicated to developing employee’s careers since the organization takes pride in the affinity networks. The experiences, differences, and talents of GE workers are the major ingredients of the ability to succeed and growth of the organization. Therefore, the success behind GE is mainly associated with its diversification of employees and ensuring that all employees are equal. The organization has maintained a competitive advantage by hiring the best employees, as well as, retaining an assorted workforce.
