Using education research as a lean for the wire The Wire forth season talks about the education system in Baltimore in the United States of America. The Wire is devilishly popular in United States of America although it never won any decisive reward (Todd 6). It expounded on the relationship between the students in high school and the entire community. The series expound on how the society and school institutions affect the behavior and performance of high school students. On the other hand, the high school article on outreach and the family involvement emphasizes on the need and consequential of the parents involvement in the student school activities. The articles talks about the different in relationship between families and students at various school studying levels (Simon 185). The factors, which regulate the relationship, are also extensively discussed and expounded in the article. The good relationship between schools, families, and the community is the core contributor to the students’ success in many parts of the world. International studies have proved the grave of the school parent relationship to the success of the student at all academic levels (Simon 185). However, as students grow older, the relationship between the school and the parent decline systematically. There are various reasons that facilitate the decline of the relationships between the families and the students. Parents feel they need to give their teenagers autonomy in their school and social lives. The complexity in the secondary school learning environment also confuses the parents on the areas to be involved. In The Wire, community and parents involvement are less valued in the early child life development. Students squarely rely on their teacher for guidance and counseling during their early school life (Todd 16). Nevertheless, at the advanced school age, the community involves itself fully in the student’s life. At this level, they are regarded as a potential investment in criminal activities. Therefore, the differences in the level of family involvement in the student life between the society discussed by the article and society in The Wire show how different societies value differently the lives of the children and youths. In reference to the article, there are various conditions that control and influence the families’ involvement in the teenagers’ education in high school. The family time and material resources, the nature of the parent teenager relationship, and the family take on the involvement are some of the factors responsible of the parents’ involvement in the student high school education (Simon 186). Additionally, the community way of living has a role in the parents’ involvement in school life. The excising ties between communities and the teenagers’ determine the magnitude of the parent involvement in high school activities (Todd 17). In this area, the article fits The Wire. In the series, there are intimate relationships between the community and high school students. However, students at this level are negatively involved by the society for community’s self-gain. The similarity is decidedly essential in the contemporary world. In all societies, there is a need for mutual relationship between the teenagers, the families and society. Teenage age is a transitional period in human development and entails a lot of challenges which demand the support of the family and community. Teenagers require social, professional, and developmental guidance and counseling at this time, to necessitate positive development. Therefore, the barriers that disregard the families’ student involvement should be overcome for the benefit of the student and the entire society. However, the manner in which community and families are involved in the students life need to be controlled. The immoral relationship between the high school students and the community should be discouraged. Appropriate measures should be agreed upon to necessitate a controlled relationship. The article describes the student background as one of the main variables for determining the level of family involvement in the student high school life. Race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and family structures are some of the students’ background elements that lead to the variation of the family involvement in their (students) life. Students who have a legitimate socioeconomic background have strong parents student involvement in the teenage level (Simon 186). However, The Wire contradicts with the articles opinion. The relationship between the family and the teenager in high school has nothing to do with any background elements. According to the series, all teenagers should have an equal level of involvement with the community in their high school education. Teenagers belong to the whole community and, hence, the community has the responsibility of orientating and re-socializing them in accordance with the community expectation and beliefs. The Wire further expresses the need for exclusive involvement of the parent and the community in the teenagers’ entire life (Todd 21). The differences between the article and the series on the impact of social background to the family teenagers’ involvement distinguish the differences in ideologies between the capitalist and communist. Communism recommends equal treatment to all people irrespective of their socioeconomic background. On the other hand, the difference also describes how evil societies have strong mutual relationships within themselves to protect their vices. In the modern contemporary world, which the article represents, social background is tremendously significant in determining the nature of parent student relationship at the high school level. In reference to the article, parents need to be involved in the school activities by the school administration. The teenagers’ teachers have the responsibility of inviting them (the parents) either formally or informally to participate in important schools activities. Families are highly motivated and encouraged to participate in the teenagers’ school affairs when there is continuous and sustainable school to home communication through frequent phone calls and home visits (Simon187). Therefore, schools administrators have the responsibility of involving parents in the student affairs in the school. The responsibility of the schools managers to include the families in the school practices has a more significant effect to the level of the family involvement as compared to other factors. According to The Wire, schools are highly discouraged from playing any role in encouraging the families to participate in the student education. Families and the community do not require invitation to participate in school activities. The community and the teenagers’ parents assume the responsibility of involving themselves in school activities with minimum reliance on invitation (Todd 23). Some families complain a lot when their involvement in the school activities is not granted. The differences in the role of the school in family and community involvement in the teenage life between the article and the series content have a significant implication. It implies that in the contemporary social setting every community member has a significant role to play in the teenagers’ growth and development. School has the responsibility of inviting the family members in the school activity through the agreed means. In reciprocation, families and community members should comply fully with the school invitation. On the other hand, in the morally corrupt societies, there is no role specialization. Community members do not have well defined roles in their daily activities. This leads to role conflict and confusion among the community members.
