Ideal Friendship vs. Real Life Friendship Every person desires to have a friend or many friends in life. There are those qualities that each person desires his/her friends to have. These qualities make up the characteristics of an ideal friend. Such qualities are bound to differ in different people. However in real life, people do not have friends who have all the characteristics that they would desire in a friend. Therefore, in most cases, real life friendship differs from ideal friendship.Ideal friendshipIn an ideal friendship, friends do not judge one another.

They accept one another as they are. In an ideal friendship, none of the parties can talk behind the back of the other. The friends are real and true to one another. The level of trust between the friends is 100 percent (Yager 54). They share secrets, and none of them can reveal those secrets to other people. An ideal friendship is built on respect. Ideal friends respect each other’s opinion and live by it.Ideal friends get angry with each other but are very forging. They do not use the past mistakes of the other parties to judge them in future.

Each person embraces the flaws of the party. Ideal friends depend on one another despite the time and situation. In such a friendship, one is sure that they have someone to count on. They have concern for each other. They listen to each other and appreciate the thoughts of their friends. Most importantly, they love one another genuinely at all times (Yager 57).Real life friendshipIn the real life, friends might be very disappointing. Most friends cannot accept you the way you are. They will expect you to change some qualities so that you can fit into the friendship.

Some friends pretend to be real friends when with their close friends but in their absence they talk ill of them. In the real life, friends have little trust for each other. Each party expects that at one point the other party might stop being their friends and hence cannot fully trust them.In real life, friendships break over simple mistakes. There is little forgiveness in friendship, and if it is there, the closeness in the friendship reduces after a mistake is done by one party. In the real life, friends appreciate a person while they succeed but detach themselves when they fail.

Genuine love is rare to find in friendship. Most people only keep friends whom they have something to benefit from.In conclusion, ideal friendship differs from what is found in the real life friendship. Regardless of how good a friendship may look in real life, it never lacks certain qualities that do not appear in ideal friendship.Works CitedYager, Jan. When Friendship Hurts: How to Deal with Friends Who Betray, Abandon, or Wound You.
