AR Health Promotion 9/2 Cardiovascular Diseases Discuss why the health promotion issue you have chosen is a goverment health priority.(250 words ) In the world today several advances have been done in the field of medicine but still it is seen that some problems remain unsolved. Cardiovascular disease is one of the profound problems in the field of medicine which is causing many individuals to suffer. Cardiovascular diseases are a government health priority because they are the leading causes of death all over the world. It is seen that the mortality rate of cardiovascular diseases all over the world is higher than any other disease. The major cardiovascular diseases are stroke, coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis and hypertension. The low and middle income countries are the most affected ones by the cardiovascular diseases. It is further believed by the end of 2030 almost 23.6 million people would die because of these cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are lethal for the lives of individuals and it is very expensive when it comes to the cure of these diseases. This is the very reason that the government has selected it as a top health priority. The government wants to reduce the deaths caused by Cardiovascular diseases as it is increasing both the health and economic burdens on the government. Economically it is causing the government to bear high costs for the treatment options and from a health perspective it is seen that the deaths are increasing day by day because of these diseases. Hence it can be concluded that to promote health it is necessary that the government addresses the cardiovascular diseases as a top health priority (WHO 2010). 2. Explain how the determinants of health need to be considered in relation to your chosen health issue . ( 250 words ) Cardiovascular Disease is a lethal disease which is interlinked with many risk factors. Coronary Artery disease is also a lifestyle disease and is one of the most fatal diseases which can cause death in higher ratio. In coronary artery disease the heart is supplied by inadequate amount of oxygen because the coronary arteries which supply the heart muscle become narrow due to the accumulation of fats in coronary arteries known as atherosclerosis. Inadequate supply of blood will cause the heart to start contracting faster and with more power to eject more blood to supply the blood to all parts of the body, so the heart will need more and more blood to work hard but the coronary arteries are narrow and the required amount of blood cannot reach the heart. The heart muscle will then become fatigued which might then cause a heart attack. Heart attack also known as myocardial infarction refers to permanent damage or death of heart muscle due to lack of oxygen (Iacobellis 2009 & Robbins et al 2009). The factors causing the heart diseases are; • Smoking, • Overweight as it increase burden on heart, • High blood pressure also known as Hypertension, • Increased fatty diet and etc (Robbins et al 2009). All these risk factors should be considered when tackling the issue of cardiovascular disease. The government needs to take strict measures to decrease all these factors such that people do not suffer from cardiovascular diseases. 3. Discuss primary ,secondary ,tertiary health promotion in relation to your chosen health priority.(250 words). Primary health promotion is mainly concerned with the improvement of health as a whole and strict measures to prevent the disease. Cardiovascular Disease is a disease which may be caused by many lifestyle factors and hence primary health promotion in the world is formulated in such a way that it can be prevented. The primary health promotion packages for cardiovascular diseases include dietary awareness to inform individuals that they should not consume any such thing which would increase the risk of atherosclerosis or cause obesity. Obesity is directly linked with cardiovascular disease and hence these primary health promotion packages aware the individuals about these risk factors. These primary health packages basically aim to inform individuals about the advantages of exercise on heart and the decreased intake of fatty foods (Jekel & Jekel 2007). The secondary health promotion packages are mainly concerned with early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Cardiovascular diseases these days are also prevented through ante-natal screening for the development of the cardiovascular system. It helps the health professionals to know as to if the child would suffer from these diseases or not. Individuals with high blood pressure can be diagnosed early and provided with pharmacological or non pharmacological treatment so that it hypertension does not progress towards other major cardiovascular diseases. Other processes such as ECG and laboratory tests can help to know about the normal functioning of heart. All these processes are being carried out under the secondary health promotion packages to prevent cardiovascular diseases (Mohrman & Heller 2006). Tertiary health promotion is concerned with people who have already acquired the cardiovascular diseases. These health promotion packages include steps which would help the patients to further progress to the final stages of the disease. Weight control, pharmacological treatments and eating patterns are highlighted in these promotions. All these together would help to decrease the probability of the progression of the disease. 4. Discuss the purpose and application of the health promotion game. Include who , what, where, when, why and how the community nurse might utilize the game for health promotion.(250 words). Health promotion games are designed to aware people about their health status. Some of them are designed as quizzes which can inform the people as to how they should sort out their issues. They aware the individuals about certain aspects of diseases which would help them to prevent those diseases. Health promotion games are also designed as physical activities which can greatly help to prevent many diseases. Cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through these health promotion games. Community nurse can play a great role to promote these games such that the individuals work on these games. These community nurses can include these games for patients who are suffering from diseases. These games are easy to play because of which the patients would not hesitate to take part in these games. The community nurses can use these health promotion games in hospitals to encourage the patients to take part in the games. These games are basically used for patients who otherwise would not like to do exercises. Moreover other promotion games provide information to the patients about the things they should do and the things they should not. Hence the community nurse is utilizing the health promotion games for the improvement of the health status of the individuals (Parker et al 2006). Bibliography Cardiovascular Diseases.
