2 January Assignment River valleys all around the world have formed one of the primary aspects of every civilization that has ever been established; may it be the Harappan or the Mesopotamian civilization; or even the Chinese or Greek ones, every civilization formed itself on the banks of some or the other river valley. This helps to understand the importance of how water is the basic source of living for all human beings and no man can survive without it. One may have knowledge and power however, without water; he has no source of food or drink and will not be able to survive. Water led to flourishing economies and helped civilizations to boom and master the art of production and distribution, as well as navigation and travel. 2. Animals both wild and domestic are a very important source of any civilization because people depend on animals for a variety of produce ranging from meat to clothes and other such products. In most cultures around the world, people have survived only because of their dependence on being able to produce farm produce, sell the same and otherwise consume it on their own. 3. Enlightenment is the next most important item out of all because it refers to a person having a revelation about life and understanding the meaning and his purpose on the planet. Enlightenment was given a great deal of important especially during the Buddhist regime of Gautama Buddha who emphasized on meditating and understanding the feelings that came from within one’s soul. This was a practice heavily followed during the Mauryan period and has become famous even today because it helps people to achieve inner peace and understand themselves with respect to other people. It helps them to gain a perspective on life and being calm and comprehending is the single most powerful aspect of one’s life that can take him places. 4. The Intellectual revolution that took place all around the world, starting in European countries like Greece takes the second place because it consists of people being empowered by knowledge and thought rather than depending on faith and belief. It became very important for people to be able to think for themselves as well as create a lifestyle rather than live on something that already existed. Thinkers like Plato and Socrates advocated the idea of having an intellectual revolution to turn the world around and make people think for themselves. 5. Every religion around the world maintains a concept of God which it teaches to the people; it has become important for most people over time, to have a faith and belief in a supernatural aspect of life which is higher than most mortals and holds importance in their lives. It has become vital for people to have something to cherish as well as fear, and thus the concept of God arose in every civilization around the world, leading to a separation of world religion into various religions. Today, there are several religions around the world with their own concepts of God; despite this, all religions believe in the omnipresence of God and His existence and talk about worship of the inner self. Religion is not merely a tool of expression but an expression of life itself. 6. Lyceums or the education system was given primary importance in Ancient Greece as thinkers and philosophers like Plato and Socrates gave heavy importance to having a strong educational system to impart knowledge to the young people and have them become mature and responsible adults with a vast array of knowledge rather than providing heavy dependence on God or any other faith. It is very important to be educated and as Plato said, only the smartest may rise to the top and be able to govern the rest of the people. It is thus important for every state to have an educated background so that people may rise and govern the rest with panache in order to help the state flourish on the whole and make people have their own voices and think for themselves. 7. Vedas are the most important scriptures or religious texts in the Hindu religion; the reason for them being on this list are that they form a sort of law or legal structure for Hindus to follow and are divided into the various aspects of life. It is important for every state or group of people to abide by a law in order to be able to match with other people and live in harmony and thus just like the Vedas, there are other scriptures around the world that lay down laws as well. 8. Economy and infrastructure are very important for any country or state to flourish because they form the backbone of the capital of the country or state. Roads and bridges as well as buildings to house people as well as provide a variety of facilities have woven their way into the modern world and account for the progress that a country has been able to make with the resources and time provided. 9. The Pyramids at Giza are a symbol of the marvellous things that man is able to create and thus such creativity deserves some sort of importance at the very least. People are able to create and make things that have become the wonders of the world and the Pyramids especially are one of the most magnificent pieces of art any man has ever been able to dream of and make. They still stand strong today in the midst of thousands of years of sandstorms and thus are truly one of the greatest wonder of the world. 10. Language is the last item on this list because according to personal opinion, it creates barriers. However at the same time, it brings a group of people together and helps cultures to flourish. Nonetheless, if there was a single language, people would be able to relate to one another better and feel more at ease with the rest of the world rather than separate themselves on the basis of this minor difference of pronunciation and words.
