It was founded in 1957 with the mandate to establish and implementensure peace, security and spread of confidence among the people Abu Dhabi Emirate works with other agencies to achieve this objective. The vision of the Directorate is to become the police force that is more active in responding to the needs of citizens with the highest level of integrity and training. The primary clients of Abu Dhabi Police are the members of the public who are in need of various police services (“Abu Dhabi Police”). Some of the services of the Directorate offers is the provision of traffic information to drivers, which may update their details quickly if they wish to. Drivers also can view information on their driving licenses and see the traffic violations issued in their licenses, and pay them. Registered users can view their registered vehicles details of the car as it recorded online, see its certificates, accidents history, payment receipts, and traffic violations records. There are other services that are offered by the Abu Dhabi Police that not related to the above mentioned services. The internship involved performing routine police assignments that are received from police officers of superior rank. This generally involves checking of parking for any violations, systematic area patrol. Other duties include answering calls and handling a crisis involving fire, vehicle accidents, robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies. During the attachement period, several skills capabilities were developed these includes the ability to cope with challenging situations firmly, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others. I was able to practice the theories and concepts learned in class. I was able to understand the elements of police career and know what to expect after college training. This internship also enhanced my personality by constant practice of humility, handwork, patriotism, and discipline, the virtues that are useful in everyday life. The challenges encountered included harsh weather, lack of sanitary services outside the police station and exposure to risks such as armed thugs, law breakers, and rioters. The classroom had adequately prepared for these challenges. The General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police in Abu Dhabi Emirate works with other agencies to achieve this objective. It seeks to ensure peace, the reduction of crime and the removal of a sense of fear, as well as contributing to the justice among the general public. The values of the Abu Dhabi Police are integrity, honesty and respect for human rights. The police provide the service fairly and deal with citizens reasonably, tact and kindness, as well as promoting of teamwork and recognizing the contribution of individuals and the groups. Abu Dhabi Police is keen to provide police services to the general public in various ways. The most important ways are through an online system that was published by Abu Dhabi Police online to serve the public. Registering in the system allow more awareness of traffic information, and also enables the citizens to obtain services instead of going to the police department. Abu Dhabi e-Government centralized registration and the log-in system is considered to be one of the safest and secure systems. When citizens register in the portal through the electronic identity card they get an active traffic profile in Abu Dhabi police, the system recognize them as already registered user without any additional process. The log-in details of the Abu Dhabi e- government portal are availed to all governmental agencies that use e-government. The services on this system mainly focus on traffic profile, driving license, vehicles registration, public services, and other related services. 1.2 Type of ownership General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police is a government institution under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The employees are recruited by the state and payed from the government ministry. The government is funded tax from the people of United Arab Emirates. The Directorate is headed by the Commander General, who reports to the Minister of Internal Affairs. 1.3 The sector the institution Police is a public entity aided by the state and serving the citizens. Police being a serve industry it calls for passion, patriotism and sacrifice when performing the duties. The police career is also referred to as disciplined profession due to its high level of training and accuracy expectation from the work. 1.4 Customers of the institution The primary clients of Abu Dhabi Police are the members of the public who are in need of various police services. These services may include inquiring about the traffic fines in which the the inquiry may be for a particular data using code, or to retrieve the information that have a specific searchword or retrieving data. The public can apply for vehicle registration through its number to view its details. Citizens are inquiring for payment receipt in which the user can check the receipt. The user can then print, translate, and email it to those who require it. Inquiring for vehicle accidents, in which the customer can get vehicle accidents report that may have happened to a particular vehicle using its chassis number if it was registered in the unified traffic system. The user can also check the full details of each accident. Registered users can also see all their payment receipts issued for their traffic profiles, print or email them. In addition, they can see traffic profile fines, and pay them via credit cards anywhere they are. Drivers can view information on their driving licenses and see the traffic violations issued in their licenses, and pay them via credit cards from where they are. Users who haven’t got their driving license and have an active try files can also view their renew date and pay the fees online via credit cards. Registered users can view their registered vehicles details of the car as it recorded online, see its certificates, accidents history, payment receipts, and traffic violations records, and. In addition, the user has the option to view all documents for his vehicles on one page. There are other services that are offered by the Abu Dhabi Police that not related to the above mentioned services. Presently, there are two additional services, they include, traffic fines archive for the traffic profile, in which the drivers check their paid fines, and the second is the reservation of car number plates service in which the user can check for reserved car number plates on the traffic details and check out the reservation expiry dates. 1.7 Job Description There are various general and varied police work in an effort to protect life and property through enforcement of laws. The internship involved performing routine police assignments that are received from police officers of superior rank. This frequently involves checking of parking for any violations, systematic area patrol, initial case investigation and traffic rules. Investigative duties are also assigned to a particular area, this sometimes involve elements of personal danger, and we are expected to act without direct supervision and to exercise prudence in meeting emergencies. Police may receive special duty that call for specialized skills and knowledge acquired through experience. In addition, police departments are required to work together and assist each other in conducting investigations, searches, and all other duties allocated to other ministries. Functions and instructions are received from a superior officer who reviews work methods and results through reports, personal inspection, and discussion. Other duties include answering calls and handling a crisis involving fire, vehicle accidents, robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies.At the scene of crime, the police are required to offer first aid, conducts nesessary investigations, gathers evidence, restrain suspects, and identify potential witness to testify later in court. Assisting citizens who have complaints and inquiries and direct them to relevant sections. Checking parking meters for overtime parking violations and issues traffic tickets, directing traffic at the road junctions. Escorting prisoners to and from the court by ensuring that they are well guarded and being the custodian of exhibits being held for court presentation. The police office is also expected to carry out other related tasks as assigned by the seniors. 2.1 Problem and solution There was constant complain from the general public that the perpetrators of the crime were not being prosecuted by the court of law despite the members of public catching the suspects and handing them to the police. Before the judge could make any ruling on the suspect, witnesses and exhibits were required during the case hearing in which the police were expected to facilitate. To the surprise of the public, the police were constantly not able to put up evidence that would lead to prosecution of the culprits. This problem, therefore, led the Commander General to seek a solution to the problem and the training program was initiated to sensitize the police on this issue. The Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police launched new training project to enhance its capacity for handling emergency lab, forensic and onsite investigation by the police officers. According to the Commander General Abu Dhabi Police, the training was to help deal with criminal cases faster and help the court to conclude cases quickly. The Emergency Department at the Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters also organized an exclusive workshop on how to handle emergency situations at Forensic laboratories. The training was also attended by Colonel Abdul Rahman Head of Forensic Department together with section chiefs and lab technicians at the Department. The training addressed the procedures on how to handle emergency situations at crime scenes including hazardous substances and their effects on human and the environment. Harzardous substances warning lables as well as the use of personnal protective equipments. 3.0 Assessment of the internship 3.1 Skills and qualifications gained in this department During the attachement period, several skills capabilities were developed these includes the ability to cope with challenging situations firmly, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine correctly decide the course of action to be taken. Improved in oral and written communication with our clients. I was able to develop skill on how to use and care of firearms. Gained knowledge of intelligence and emotional stability. Other skills include team work and cooperation with other police officers. 3.2 Responsibilities undertook during the internship There are various duties and responsibilities that I was able to undertake during the internship period. These activities varied from day to day depending with the demand of our clients. The duties include recording the reports on the OB (Occurrences Book), maintaining law and order within our location. Arresting the suspects, remand them and take them to court for the prosecution by the court of law. If the suspects were sentenced a jail term, we would therefore escort them to the jail and release when the jail term is over. We also patrolled the area to ensure that the citizens of Abu Dhabi are safe and secure. Traffic duties involved ensuring that all the vehicles driven comply with the traffic regulation; offenders were taken the appropriate action as stipulated by the traffic act. 3.3 Internship influence on future career plans This attachment will significantly affected my career as a police in a positive way. I was able to practice the theories and concepts learned in class. I was able to understand the elements of police career and know what to expect after college training. This internship also enhanced my personality by constant practice of humility, handwork, patriotism, and discipline, the virtues that are useful in everyday life. 3.4 Internship activities carried out are correlated with classroom knowledge The internship activities were more or less what were expected such as difficult citizens who would like to comply with the countries laws. Such offenders tend to be aggressive and the police officers are expected to arrest them and have them prosecuted for their offences. If law breakers are not prosecuted and punished for their offences they tend to increase the magnitude if their offence that eventually compromises the safety and security of the citizens of the country. The challenges encountered included harsh weather, lack of sanitary services outside the police station and exposure to risks such as armed thugs, law breakers and rioters. The classroom have adequately prepared for these challenges. 4.0 Conclusions of the report Internship is very important stage in college school. It allows the student to perform the exact tasks and duties performed in the real work experience. Student get the opportunity to practice what they learn in classroom and therefore able to understand the theoretical concept more clearly.
