Reflection 1 Ethics for me is acting in a fair and just manner where by doing so the overall society gains. It is difficult to actually decide what is ethically correct or incorrect as different internal and external factors influence us when we take decisions. This is as aspect which I think is very difficult to attain as being fair all the time and looking for the society instead of my personal gains becomes a problem. There have been situations where I have tried to act ethically but had to face different problems which creates doubt whether acting ethically is correct or not. One of the instance was that when we were attending the final exams in class nine some students engaged into activities like cheating. I noticed the students engaged in such activities and notified the same to the person in-charge of the class. The students were caught red handed but when the students came to know that I was the one who leaked the information I was threatened and even beaten. This was the reward I got for acting in an ethically correct way raises questions whether acting in an ethically correct way is justified or not. This shook my notion about being correct and created doubts whether the next time I should act in a similar manner or not. Despite the things I underwent I still feel that being ethically correct is important as it helps to bring a complete change and transformation and also ensures that the person becomes morally correct. Ethics for me is to act in a fair manner and while looking to take decisions ensuring that the personal gains don’t dominate the process of thinking and decision making and instead the society is considered an important aspect and based on it decisions are taken. I also feel that ethically which is correct will be the same for all individual irrespective of the manner in which they think and will not vary from people to people. This thereby makes ethics a moral truth which can be universally accepted and guides the person towards taking decisions which are correct and appropriate. The developments of ethics I feel largely depend on the moral values and cultural upbringing which a person undergoes. Ethics is not something which can be learned or changed in a day but instead it is a process which takes times and is developed when the child starts to grow from a small age and continues till death. This is thereby a learning phase where individuals and people experiences changes and growth due to their value system and make changes in the overall phenomenon of carrying out different activities. I also feel that when people start to become old and the desire for different artificial needs decreases hen the people start to witness a change in their behaviour. This makes the person to be socially more responsible and also brings about a change in their behaviour as people start to think about society and other people and thereby take decisions which are morally correct. Ethics is thereby an area which slowly with time gets shaped up and brings a change in behaviour which ensures better decision. Values system has a role to play in it and decided the manner in which a person will care about the society. I personally believe that it is difficult to be ethically correct all the time as the different motives and gains tempt people to act in a different way thereby having an impact on the manner ethical decisions are taken. The ability to overcome those and take decisions which reflects the society and the manner in which different needs can be satisfied helps to highlight the manner in which the different ethical needs are met. This is thereby an area which can be different from one person to another and to be ethically and morally correct a framework has to be developed which will ensure better decision making and bring about a complete change in the behaviour of people and the manner in which decisions are taken. Reflection 2 The social and environmental sustainability has a role in shaping the ethical standards of people as it brings complete change and transformation in the behaviour of people by forcing them to act in a different manner. I feel that the social and environmental sustainability factors will also have an impact on the manner in which I perceive to act in a moral and ethical standard. I am looking to make adjustments and ensure that the profession which I choose matched with the ethical standards which I have set so that the impact of social and environmental sustainability gets reduced and better decisions can be taken based on it. I am looking to work in the field of marketing where to persuade and make people purchase different products even some degree of lie is allowed. To be actually correct the information is moulded and changed in such a manner that the individual needs of the customers can be met so that a framework through which better customer satisfaction can be developed can be achieved. The social and environmental sustainability will thereby force me to make changes in the value system which I have thereby forcing me to change the different ethical standards which I have developed for myself and others based on which I evaluate whether decisions are correct or not. The different clash between the value system and the needs of the job will have an impact on the performance as I have already witnessed the same while working in the field of marketing. There was a situation where the company had received a large order for delivering clothes. I was working in the marketing department and to ensure that the deal got closed I had to tell different lie to persuade people. The order was given to use based on quality as the in-house production was good and the clothes justified the price charged to customers. Since our manufacturing units were busy processing other order we had to outsource the order and instead of stating the same we said that it was produced in-house but the quality which was provided wasn’t of a very high quality. This raised questions about the working mechanism and I was also in a dilemma of whether I should follow my ethical standards or allow social and environmental sustainability to determine my actions. Under the influence of other I took the second option and moved away from my ethical standards. This was something which I was uncomfortable and within a short span of time I left the job for something better which matched my value system. This incident showed the manner in which I need to ensure that the value system matched with the professional requirements so that a social and environmental sustainability situation can be developed which will foster better decision making and provide an opportunity through which the overall relevance of decision making improves. This will also help to bring a complete change in the manner different activities are carried out and will help to ensure that the framework through which better decisions are developed will be achieved. I have also realized that social and environmental sustainability have a large role in shaping the professional life and the person needs to ensure that while working certain adjustments are made and the process of decision making is changed so that the overall relevance of decisions are improved. This has to be matched by the fact that ethics still needs to be considered as a core constituent and the manner in which different decisions are taken needs to be amended so that the overall relevance of decision making improves and social and environmental sustainable situations are developed which will help to improve the overall relevance of decision making and multiply the opportunities through which gains will be multiplied. Reflection 3 Understanding of culture has a huge role in determining the manner in which a person will be successful or not. I have realized the fact that a person who is able to undergo changes and adapt the culture which the professional life requires provides an opportunity to be successful as it helps to create better relations. Cultural adaptability and changes provides an opportunity where mixing with other people becomes easy and trust can be developed. This removes the differences between people and provides an opportunity to make cultural adjustments thereby ensuring that people are able to think in a similar fashion. I belong to China and have a culture which is different from Indians or Australians or Americans. To be successful in the global arena I need to understand the culture where I work and based on it need to make changes and adjustments in my own culture. This will help me to mix with people and will create the opportunity through which I will be in a better situation to take decisions. The process will help to remove the differences which I have with other and will assure people that I understand them and will be able to satisfy their different needs and wants. I have already experienced one situation where I have realized the importance of cultural adaptability and making changes in my behaviour so that my understanding of culture is improved. While I was working in the marketing department I was assigned the job of dealing with American clients. As I have already mentioned that I belong to China so I didn’t have any knowledge about the American culture. This made it difficult for me to understand them and I was not able to create the required faith through which better business deal can be obtained from them. The final result was that the negotiation and the deal with the American client failed as my inability to understand the cultural needs and make changes in the cultural requirements impacted the manner in which I dealt with them. This situation helped me realize the importance of being flexible and understanding the culture of others so that changes can be made in the manner in which I work. I have also understood that making different cultural changes and adjusting to the business needs will help to create the required opportunity which will ensure that the person remains successful. I also feel that making the required cultural adjustments and ensuring that the overall process looks at improvement will create the required social and environmental environment through which success can be achieved. The process will require that proper understating of the culture is made which will require spending time and effort to understand others. This will help to develop a framework through which mixing with other people will become easy and the overall framework will be developed towards developing the required momentum through which large gains can be made. Adjusting to the different culture reduces the risk and multiplies the efficiency as it helps to build trust and dealing with other people becomes easy. The overall framework thereby transforms into one where people are able to respond to the different business requirements and transform the manner in which different activities are carried out. I have realized the fact that a person who is able to undergo changes and adapt the culture which the professional life requires provides an opportunity to be successful as it helps to create better relations. Cultural adaptability and changes provides an opportunity where mixing with other people becomes easy and trust can be developed. This removes the differences between people and provides an opportunity to make cultural adjustments thereby ensuring that people are able to think in a similar fashion Thus, cultural adaptability is important when it comes to working in the international arena and individuals needs to bring a change in the manner different decisions are taken. This will help to improve the overall relevance of decision making and will provide an opportunity through which being successful all around the globe will increase. The overall phenomenon will thereby ensure better decision making and will develop people to take better decisions. Read More
