Introduction I aspire to be a flight leader or a flight manager in the future My personal style Type Dynamics Indicator is a test that is used to indicate a person’s personal style and approach and personality preferences in work. In this assignment I will include the results of this test followed by my own reflection on the light of my career.The results of my personality test from the Type Dynamics Indicator showed that I have a personality of an Energiser. Energisers people are very friendly, sociable and enthusiastic. My Energetic personality is characterized by four group’s personality preferences. Personality preferences such as extraversion, sensing, feeling and perception were mainly highlighted in my test results. The result also indicated that I tend to take personal approach my work and studies. For example, I tend to be very confident form my own choices. Regarding my evaluation, I fit best as an energiser, which means that I bring enthusiasm, act as reconciler and always seek to do something and to keep things moving. For instance, I like working in an environment where people are serious with their work and at the same time happy with their work. Due to my personality of being an energizer, I tend to adapt to different situations without much struggle. For instance, I can move from one task to another and this also shows my responsive character. I tend to be good at dealing with urgent issues but miss long-term deadlines as I first handle more pressing issues which arise. For example, when studying, I tend to be more effective when performing tasks with shorter deadlines, while assignments with longer deadlines, I tend to start them at the last minute. This tendency has been a major challenge for me, and I have sometimes frustrated my more-organised colleagues in school and at work who prefer to handle tasks when they are assigned than to wait until when the deadline nears. As a result, I am more effective when working under pressure or when strict deadlines are involved. I have adapted well to rapidly changing events in my work and studies. For instance, if a lecturer announces a random test say within 24 hours, I manage to create time and revise for the test and walk in the exam confidently without panicking for I am intrigued by deadlines. Consequently, I am not afraid of being posted in new departments in my workplace, for I know for sure that I will also adapt well to working in a new department. This brings out my practical and flexible nature as an energiser. As an energiser, I favour duties and work aimed at helping others and activities that produce visible and immediate results. For, instance, I am motivated more when I provide the pilot with the necessary information required in preparing a flight. I have also observed that I do not initiate change but become involved in making it happen, which stimulates and energises me. As an energiser, I am well fitted for my career of a flight manager as I am good at building and enhancing relationships (Eriksen& Kress 2005). This ability will help me be effective in my career I need to engage in outgoing, lively and fun to the people I will be working with and consequently improve the overall working environment of my workmates. For instance, in furnishing the pilot in command with the relevant information, preparing flight plans among others, I will be contributing to a good working environment to my workmates and hence increase client’s satisfaction. As a flight manager, there are some aspects that I will need to develop or rather improve in order to take criticism positively and also to implement unpopular decisions (Baruch 2006). For instance, in case of an emergency, as a flight manager, I am mandated with the responsibility of initiating with emergency procedures as outlines in the emergency manuals of operations. This therefore calls for qualities like learning from feedback to ascertain that, any mistakes that I may have made previously are not repeated. In this regard, having a positive attitude towards my work will mean that, I accept positive criticism even when the feedback is negative. Importance of my personal style for my career Personal styles indicate for which careers people are best fit and which they should not pursue (Baruch, 2003).These different personality types explain why some people work well with others, while others are always in conflicts. Individuals have diverse preferences whichtogethermake up their personality type (Baruch, 2003).My personal style is of great importance to the career I am pursuing that of being a flight manager and is well suited for being a flight leader, flight manager or cabin crewmember and it is well linked to the hospitality industry. Importantly for my career, I feel happy when meeting new people and talking withdifferent personalities every day. Consequently, inthe regular interactions that I will have with my colleagues and passengers, I will experience real happinessand demonstrate to passengers that I has a genuine interest in them. I am also highly talkative and never run out of ideas to discuss, sohaving little chats with passengers will allow me to create lasting, memorable experiences for them. Individual’s categorised withan ESFP personality tend to focus on the details of their surrounding environment. This trait will be of great importance in my career as Iwillneed to be very observant and look for any suspicious activities that could harm passengers. I will need torespond appropriately to avert anyrisks that arise and, in the instancesthatthey are realised, handle them as swiftly as possible. Carers that are well fitted in this category include the flight attendants, chef, and trainer as well as a nurse just to mention a few. My personal style will also assist me greatly in my career since makes me well suited to obtain the neededresults and resolve any conflicts that arise. This expectation is based on the notion that energisers tend to be best when achieving clear, short-term goals. In such situations, I will respond quickly. Appraisal of my chosen career I aspire to be a flight leader or a flight manager in the future. These jobs are closely linked with cabin crew careers. I also desire work for Saudi Arabian Airlines. To ensure that Iwillattain my career goals, I am doing mybachelor’s degree in international hospitality management and aim to earn a master’s degree in the same field. These degrees will aid my career due to my experience since Saudi Arabian Airlines looks for these qualifications when recruiting employees. Studying for a master’s degree in international hospitality and tourism management will greatly benefit my career by helping me deal with thepeople from diverse cultures and backgroundswhom I will constantly encounter in this field (Lindgren &Norback, 2005). To succeed in this industry, I am plan to apply my father’s advice to enrol in courses related to my chosen career, so that, if I have the opportunity to work for Saudi Arabian Airlines,I will be a preferred candidate. My chosen courseof studieshas high demands, and to succeed, Iwill have to make sacrifices. For instance, I will have to work more hoursduring the summer and public holidays asairlines have high number of passengers travelling to various destinations during those times (Costello, 2015). As well, I will have to work odd hours, such as nights and weekends. In this career, I will encounternumerous opportunities to explore various concepts and deal with challenging situations (Budhwar& Baruch 2003).These opportunities will improve my skills and greatly benefit me in the future, so that I can be accommodating of others and acknowledge that we are all different from each other in many ways. Iwill be able to meet these demands as I tend to be keen and dedicated to my job, particularly in my chosen career. I will always place my job first and seek to meet the needs of customers in the most effective waypossible. This attitude will go a long way towards making my work environment enjoyable and keeping me motivated to undertake job-related tasks. Importance of managing my career effectively in the future Career managementrefers tothe processes that people develop and implement tomonitor their career goals and strategies (Business Dictionary, 2016). Career management has manybenefits, primarily for the organisation, individual and manager (Strenger, 2008). By managing my career at the on a personal level, I will have more opportunities for personal and professionaldevelopment. In the professionalrealm, I will be better equipped to take on greater,demanding duties, such as a management position,than individuals who are stagnant and do not engage in any form of career management (Pope, 2009). I am especially experienced at managing a restaurant and I have received a promotion and managethe restaurant and baron my own for the last two hours of the night shift for about six months. During that time, I need to clean the area andmake surethat all is ready for the next shift, in addition tocashing out and closing down for the night.Thoseprofessional responsibilities willhelpme achieve my career goalsby outperforming the others working atthe same level. These skillswill ensurethatI have a great commitment to my goals andthatallmyefforts will be geared towards ensuring thatI attain those goals on a timely basis (Pope 2009). At the personal level, I will be able to maximise my earning potential by improving my service and management skills this means that I will have the opportunity to work in reputable firms. This level of career managementwill alsohelp me objectivelyassess my medium- and long-term career goals.It will also benefit the organisation as it will increase employees’ commitment and aid them in achieving organisational goals in a timely manner. In addition, promotions and raises for employees will be based solely on merit. Career managementwill provide great benefits, as through it, I will identify both my strengths and limitations. I will then use my strengths to the best of my ability and seek solutions to solve my limitations. Conclusion Based on the above reflection, I am well suited for the career that I have chosen I aspired to engage in career development to ensure that I am well suited for my job now and in the future.
