Education and Training University of Queensland- Bachelor of Business Administration Australian College of Information Technology- Diploma in IT Selection Criteria for the position According to MyCareer.com (2013), the ideal candidate for the position of Business Development Executive at First Law International will be chosen based on the following criteria: The candidate should have relevant undergraduate degree in business or marketing He or she must have worked as a Pitch Executive or Business Development Manager in a professional or legal services firm Work experience in a global company is an added advantage The candidate should have pitching market knowledge including knowledge on fee structures He or she should have the capacity to influence others, especially partners The candidate should be in a position to directly deal with clients as well as client representatives He or she should have business awareness and ability to bring the perspectives of clients into picture One should be able to numerate and assimilate large volumes of data The candidate should have excellent project management and organizational skills.  Response to the selection criteria Previous experience as a Pitch Executive or Business Development Manager is a crucial criterion in selecting the perfect candidate to fill up the position in the firm. The fact that this is a premier global law firm indicates that, it deals mostly with a wide base of premier clients and its business operations are also global. As a result, it is important for the candidate to be fully acquainted with the field of business development. This will enable him or her to quickly assimilate in to the firm’s business activities and organizational culture in order to deliver what is expected of the holder of the position. Moreover, given the size of the firm and scope of its operations, hiring a candidate who will need further training to perfectly fill the position may lead to losses through delays in delivery of services or delivery of sub-standard services initially. On the contrary, hiring a person with prior experience as a Pitch Executive or Business Development Manager is not a guarantee that he or she will deliver as per the company’s expectations. There exist lots of differences from one company to the other in terms of organizational culture, products or services being offered, industry, types of clients and service delivery techniques. Thus, being a good Pitch Executive or Business Development Manager in a given company does not mean that one will definitely be good in the same position in a different company. Moreover, an undergraduate qualification is a bit low for the position of a Business Development Executive. This position is charged with sensitive and critical responsibilities such as the development of business plans and strategies, competitor and client analysis and development of pitch proposals. All these responsibilities are key determinants of the performance of the firm, especially for a global firm. Thus, work experience in the field is not enough; the holder of this position should have advanced business management knowledge and expertise. In this case, the ideal candidate for this position should have a MBA or any relevant academic qualification that is equivalent to a MBA or above. Reference MyCareer.com. (2013, April 30).
