The importance of developing new products and satisfying consumer wants grows in case of the construction industry as consumers are becoming educated and look towards better products to provide services. The objective of the report is to find out the manner in which Willmott Dixon conducts business. This will look to analyze the SWOT and PESTEL Analysis so that better understanding regarding the future growth potential of the company can be identified. This will help to create an opportunity through which new jobs can be looked for and mechansim ensured for the success of both individuals and the company. About the Company Willmott Dixon is one of the largest privately owned companies working since 1952. The company has its existence in construction and housing business. Since, its operations the company has grown and employs more than 2600 employees. Further, to ensure better coordination and growth in the business the company has divided their operations into three main divisions namely capital works, regeneration and support services (Willmott Dixon, 2012). The manner in which the business is growing provides an opportunity for Willmott Dixon with its headquarters in United Kingdom to ensure better growth strategies for the business. SWOT Analysis The SWOT analysis concentrates both on the internal and external environment which helps to identify the areas Willmott Dixon can work on. Since, it involves both the external and internal domain it helps to understand the areas that Willmott Dixon needs to work on. The analysis is as Strengths Willmott Dixon has a good brand image due to a long time period since the company is in operations Willmott Dixon has looked towards innovation and ensured better development of new infrastructure matching the modern day requirements Willmott Dixon has presence over a large area which has ensured availability of services for most Adapting to the changing culture and environment in has ensured that Willmott Dixon is easily able to provide competitive services Continuous innovation and development has made customers look towards the company The believe that the management has in itself has helped the company ensure that they are able to achieve different things which other players thought were not possible Weakness Increasing turnover rate for employees as different employment opportunities provided by similar chains performing in the market Increasing competition from other players making it difficult to sustain the customers Increase in the number of dissatisfied workers has increased the labor turnover rate Improper supply chain has made it difficult to ensure that the products are services on time Opportunities Continuous innovation and developing new areas which increases the opportunities and ensures different options for Willmott Dixon Improving the supply and distribution network which will help to minimize the loss as it will transform into better industrial relations Huge expansion plans for Willmott Dixon increases the chances of achieving the desired plans as the same has been aided by the growth in population Threats Increased concern and threats from unions as there are consistent problem between the management and the employees Increasing competition as more and more players look towards working in the same industry Increased pressure due to change in government strategy in relation to the tax structure reducing the profit level for the organization Problems within the management with regard to certain areas of the expansion plan are making it difficult to execute the growth plans as is an increasing threat for the business. PESTEL Analysis The PESTEL analysis is a form of external analysis which will help to understand the influence of external factors on the working of an organization and the strategies that have been crafted to deal with those (Chew, Cheng & Petrovic-Lazarevic, 2006). The PESTEL analysis is as follows Political United Kingdom has a stable government in the centre which has permitted different businesses to flourish. Stability of the government has resulted in abundant time for the reforms to be passed and put in place. Also, having a democratic form of government has ensured that the people are heard and the government has ensured special previleges for the elderly. The government has ensured safety and proper infrastructure as one of the core constituents and looked towards developing their facilities accordingly. The September 11 terrorist attacks have raised concerns and made the government more circumspect on different activities which are operating around the country but strong policies to counter check those has ensured that the government is able to take vital decisions. The government has also looked towards making rules and opening the economies which has ensured more foreign investment flows into the country and has ensured better construction facilities. Strong government and the ability to take tough decisions have helped the economy to flourish and special consideration being given to the construction business has helped to ensure rules drawn in favor of them (Chew, Cheng & Petrovic-Lazarevic, 2006). Economic United Kingdom has been recently hit down by the economic recession but is slowly recovering from the present scenario. This has affected the purchasing power of the population and the social customs in United Kingdom where people look to live independently away from their parents have increased the risk for the cinstruction business. The problem has been further increased due to rising inflation which has resulted in reduced bargaining power of money and made people postpone or alters their purchasing habits in relation to infrastructure (Cateora, Mary & Graham, 2009). This has made families take decisions where they live in small houses. The present economic conditions have made it difficult for families and have thereby affected the manner in which business was conducted and has affected the way in which work was carried out. Social United Kingdom is witnessing a change in social outlook as people in this generation believe in nuclear families and wants to live independently. Both the male and female partners are working and looking for some private space between their livings. This has altered the life style and made people look towards a different set of principles. The change in the outlook has also affected the purchasing habits and has made the population follow a modern outlook (Czinkota & Ronkainen, 2004). The change in social outlook is further witnessed by the growth of Y generation which looks to follow the modern lifestyle and look towards trendier products and different lifestyle. This has thereby resulted people looking towards a different set of principles which has increased the growth of old age homes. This has been compounded by the change in the mind set of the people. The change in the mind set and the outlook of people has brought about a change in the living standard and has thereby compounded difficulty in the construction business. Technological United Kingdom has witnessed wide spread radical changes on the front of technological changes. The country has been able to absorb and accept the changes readily which has thereby helped and ensured that better facilities are provided to the construction busines. Better technology has ensured better supply and demand of products which has helped different industries to flourish and gain the required momentum in the market. The widespread changes on the technology front have resulted in better development of facilities and have helped to develop better homes. Technological advancement has helped to bring major changes in the way in which business was carried out. This has made more and more construction come up in United Kingdom and the manner in which the social outlook is changing it will result in better opportunity for business in this sector. Environmental This is an area where United Kingdom has looked towards developing their business environment and ensuring that all businesses houses look after the environment has ensured better home care facilities and improving environment. Also, the construction industry looks towards performing their basic functions and after that looks towards planting different sapling so that the environment is protected. This is an area where United Kingdom has laid emphasis on and by delivering on the required standard set by the government will help to improve the basic care facilities for people. This will ensure that all the different parts of the society contribute towards the society and help in the improvement of the society and preserves the environment. The government has different rules and license agreements for different business but it is mandatory to ensure that the business follows the prescribed rules and regulations (Korey, 2006). The importance of this magnifies when human life is involved as having a proper legal environment ensures that the organization performs according to the set standards. The government has framed rules for the construction business. In addition to it the government has ensured that some of the basic amenities which are required for living are provided. Food and shelter has been laid stress upon and measures have been taken to ensure that it matches international standards. Along with it the government has looked to ensure that the construction houses have the required license and are involve in a proper paper work which ensures that utmost care has been taken with regard to health, food and sanitation. This has ensured that the legal formalities are followed to and has helped the different businesses to be able to maintain the required standards. Future Development Plan Willmott Dixon is looking towards adopting a strategy which helps to increase the penetration level as the company offers services which helps to multiply the satisfaction level of customers. For this the company has looked to provide the required training and skills to its employees, improving the logistics management and ensuring availability of the products, improving the brand awareness and ensuring transparency by building on the values of a trustworthy brand which makes more customers choose the brand. The company is planning to improve the construction facilities by developing their infrastructure in such a manner that it helps to ensure best building and dwellings for the people. This will help Willmott Dixon to change its strategy and ensure that new value is provided to the customers. This aspect will help to identify the objectives of Willmott Dixon which will help to understand the areas that the company is looking to work on in the near future. Analyzing the objectives both for the short and long run will help Willmott Dixon to plan their strategy accordingly and deal with the changes that will ensure growth for the business. The strategies are Short Term Objectives To ensure that the problem with the labor union gets sorted out so that the business is able to supply with the customers houses at the correct time. My Job Responsibility My strengths will help Willmott Dixon as I can ensure that I fulfil the responsibility which is entrusted on me in a better way. This is clearly demonstrated by my strengths and weaknes highlighted in the appendix below The strengths highlights that I can look for a job of an architect in the company. Since I have the required knowledge in the field of AutoCAD 2D & 3D, 3D Studio Max, Revit Architecture, and Adobe Photoshop so I can contribute immensely towards Willmott Dixon and ensure that I design the infrastructure in such a manner that it provides maximum advantage and ensures better facilities.
