Organizational profile and leader profile Student’s Name: Instructor’s Name: Course Code: Date of Submission: Task Personal profile I am a student from Middle East studying bachelor of business information systems in Australia. After my studies, I would like to improve my career in management practices in all sectors of economy. I would like to be among the competitive employees globally by improving my management skills. The skills that I posses include hardworking and self determination. I am a hardworking student who is always ready to learn. When I am assigned a responsibility, am able to apply my management skills to handle it and where necessary I can consult my supervisor as this will help to improve my way of handling tasks. I also possess good communication skills. I am able to relate and interact with my fellow employees well thus improving my relationship with the people. Initially, I had worked as an in turn in a company called Olayan Group (Olayan Group 2014) where I leant some skills in the business information systems which helped me to improve my career skills. I admire to work in big firms in the management sector so that I can advance my management skills. Olayan Group is one the international companies which is based in Saudi Arabia and specializes in various investments like real estate (Olayan Group 2014). The company offers various opportunities for its employees to advance their skills in the management by conducting various on the job training by attending seminars and formal learning. One of the strategies the company applies to improve its competitive advantage is the leadership style. The company practices participative leadership style where the employees are given some opportunity by the management to contribute their ideas for improving the management of the organization since their skills are developed by being allocated some responsibilities and duties to undertake (Haig 2011). This encourages the employees to improve their business information skills and also be motivated as they feel part of the organization. The organizational culture encourages all stakeholders to participate in the affairs of the company. This is done by including the employee while making decisions for the company. The organizational culture is that the stakeholders are encouraged to take part in the management of the company by giving their ideas. This helps to improve the performance of the company in the competitive world (Charles, 2011). The physical environment of the company has enabled the employees to practice continues learning and development since there is free interaction among the employees and teamwork is encouraged which improves the interaction among the employees. The employees are empowered to make some viable decisions to solve problems which could affect the performance of the company for instance making simple management decisions like utilization of resources (Freyr, 2007). This approach enables the employees to offer their best skills and in turn they improve the quality of products and services offered to the customers. In this regard also, the employees learn to improve their careers through learning and development programmes like attending workshops and seminars. Personally, I will be able to improve my career as it’s my passion and I will also be able to realize my dream (Charles, 2011). The location of the head office of the company is at the city of Riyadh. Since I stay in the capital city of Saudi Arabia, I will learn to commute easily to work. In this regard, I will learn time management techniques (Freyr, 2007). The employment practices in the company do not discriminate any employee. There are clear procedures which are followed when hiring and promoting employees (Olayan Group 2014). An employee is promoted considering his or her skills and ability to handle the task. Since there is no discrimination when conducting the operations of the company, I will have the opportunity of being promoted depending on the management skills I posses. The company offers various opportunities for learners to improve their careers. My desire in the Olayan Group Company is to improve my reputation in the industry (Olayan Group 2014). Due to diversity at the company’s workplace, I will be able to interact with people from different backgrounds and learn to develop my career by learning how to handle different employees from different backgrounds. The strategy of the company is to offer quality services to the customers and in accordance to their specifications. This will help to satisfy the needs of the customers. As a result, the company is able to improve its performance globally which implies that the company will continue to grow (Haig 2011). I am willing to offer my time management skills and work under less supervision but improve productivity as well as completing my job within the timelines given. The corporate values of the company like vision, mission, goals and objectives of the company encourage the employees of the company to give the customers the priority. Customer satisfaction can be achieved if the employees are motivated and have necessary skills to offer quality products to the customers. In this regard, I believe this is the best organization I will work for since it provides high organizational fit which links my personality with the organization corporate goals and values. This is because I intend to work better in my area of specialization to improve customer services since I will give the customers the priority. Since I have flexible mind when making decisions, I will take other people’s opinions before making a viable decision (Syrett 2007). This helps to improve my career through decision making. In addition, I will work with other teams to improve my interaction skills hence be able to find solutions to various problems and finally I will be self motivated and this will help me to achieve my dream. Considering the above information, working at Olayan Group will help me improve my management skills. The organizational culture of the company promotes equality which offers equal opportunities for all depending on the skills the employees possesses. The company also offers training programmes like attending seminars and workshops and this will to improve my management skills. Task 2 Leader profile: Professor Muhammad Yunus The leadership qualities Professor Muhammad Yunus possessed include self determination. Despite the many challenges he faced like discouragement from the banks and the government, he did not give up his mission (Grameen Bank 2013). This implies that he was a self determined individual. He also had the persuasive skills. Professor Muhammad Yunus was able to influence his students to support his operations in changing the living standards of the people. The students were able to collect some financial resources which helped him to start giving some soft loans for the villagers in Bangladesh to start earning some living (Muhammad, 2010a). This shows that Professor Muhammad Yunus was persuasive and that is why he gained some support from his students. Professor Muhammad Yunus was born in June 28th in the year 1940 in the village in eastern Bengal. In the year 1974, Professor Muhammad Yunus led his students to a small village in Bangladesh to find out about the poverty levels in the state and they interviewed one woman (Grameen Bank 2013). After finding out the poverty levels, he decided to introduce bamboo stools because he wanted to offer some comfort to the villagers as an initiative which helps to pull people out of their poverty (Muhammad, 2010a). Professor Muhammad Yunus decided to give out loans out of his own pocket to improve their living standard which was against the banks and the government. In the year 1983, he formed the Grameen bank. Currently, Grameen Bank in Bangladesh is among the leading banks with more than 2564 branches and serving 81367 villages to improve the living standards of the people. Out of the loans taken by the borrowers, 97% of the borrowers are women since they were the most people who were struck by poverty and 97% of the loans are paid back (Muhammad, 2010b). This is an indication that the initiative of eliminating poverty as developed by Professor Muhammad Yunus has helped to transform the lives of many people both in Bangladesh and other countries where the bank has extended its operations to (Grameen Bank 2013). However, there are some lowlights which Professor Muhammad Yunus faced while trying to improve the living standards of the people (Muhammad, 2010a). One lowlight was resistance from the banks. The banks tried to discourage him from giving loans to poverty stricken villagers as they thought that the loans could not be paid back. The banks did not cooperate with him to give loans to people to engage in creative activities to eliminate poverty (Grameen Bank 2013). The professor continued with his vision despite the discouragement from the banks. The government also tried to discourage him against his initiative. It took long before the government understood the passion of Professor Muhammad Yunus to eliminate the poverty levels. This lowered his morale for giving his loans although he did not give up. On the other hand, the highlight of Professor Muhammad Yunus was the encouragement he received from his mother (Muhammad, 2010b). The mother tried and helped any poor who knocked on the door and this inspired Professor Muhammad Yunus to work towards realizing his dream. He also got some support from his students when he was lecturing at Chittagong University (Grameen Bank 2013). They encouraged him and provided some financial support which he used to give loans to the poor people in the village. This individual is considered successful because he has managed to transform the lives of many people globally. He started as an individual with much resistance from banks and the government but continued with his dream. He had the passion of transforming the lives of many people in the village and globally by eliminating the high poverty levels (Grameen Bank 2013). He also developed a bank which is among the leading banks in Bangladesh with low interest rates and majorly supports the poor and the women in the society. In addition, Professor Muhammad Yunus has been honored by many awards globally for his passion for the poor people. One of the awards is the Bangladesh president award inn the year 1978, ‘the USA humanitarian award in the year 1993 and the Switzerland Aga Khan award for architecture in 1969 for designing the Grameen bank (Muhammad, 2010a). Considering professor Yunus biography, I intend to apply knowledge and skills so that I can be competitive globally. The persistent leadership style that professor Yunus possessed, I will be able focus on the changing trends in the manufacturing industry and remain focused (Schermerhorn 2010). I have also learnt that successful leaders also underwent some challenges before they finally became the heroes. In this regard, I will learn to be persistent while developing my career as I know that finally I will come out victorious like professor Yunus managed to overcome challenges he faced during his early development (Muhammad, 2010b).
