Introduction This paper reflects on my experience in BSB124, by particularly highlighting the different things I have learnt with regard to intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. This will further look to highlight the manner in which I look to develop the different competencies so that I am able to achieve better growth in career goals, which has been presented by looking at “SMART” criteria (i.e. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound). The fact that the portfolio concentrates on identifying the manner in which I will be able to learn from my experience it will revolve around Kolb’s (1984) learning cycle. So, in this portfolio I will look to discuss the different experiences surrounding my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills where I will describe the experience I had undergone, reflect on the experience, link the experience to different theories and look to develop the future strategies based on it so that I am able to improve my current skills. In this paper I have chosen to focus on the learning style which will use Learning Style Profiler-Jackson 2009 model and will help to determine the manner in which intrapersonal effectiveness will be gained. This will be followed by CATME feedback in terms of my interpersonal effectiveness. This will thereby help to outline the reflective analysis through which I will be able to find out the different skills through which better effectiveness and achievement of the carrier goals becomes possible. 2. Intrapersonal Effectiveness 2.1 Learning Style Profiler-Jackson Model This model predicts the functionally learned behavior by analyzing the different intrapersonal characteristics and looks at analyzing the characteristics based on Sensation seeking, Emotional Intelligence, Goal Orientation, Conscientiousness and Deep Learning Abilities, a person will become a functional learner. This thereby helps to identify the desire to learn and to bring the required transformation through which effectiveness will be developed in the intrapersonal traits (McShane, Steven, Olekalns, Mara and Travaglione, 2010). This is important for my future as it will help to understand the manner in which I will be able to work as a lawyer. The Emotional Intelligence score which I got shows that I can effectively regulate and understand emotions within myself and others. Since, emotional intelligence helps to understand the ability to handle stress and having a high score on the parameter ensures that I will be able to handle stress better. This was also evident in case of my experience in BSB124 where I was able to handle the burden that the group entrusted on me and was able to complete the entire work as per the required directives in the most effective manner. This is important in my career as as top-tier law firms tend to have fast paced and high-stress organisational cultures. The result on Conscientiousness and a high Goal Orientation helped me to understand the manner in which I was able to contribute and is an imperative in my law carrier. My high goal orientation demonstrates that I have the confidence and self-efficacy to achieve my goals. This was reflected in my working style and my experience in BSB124 where I was able to handle the different responsibilities and was able to develop the required fundamentals through which better information was exchanged and helped to garner the required response from the teammates. However, my low conscientiousness, a trait which encompasses preparedness and reliability, indicates that though I am capable of achieving my goals, I lack the organisational skills to do so. This is important that as a lawyer I need to conduct research and ensure that deadlines are met. I was able to deliver on the same promise as I was able to meet the required standards and was able to ensure that the overall results were positive and helped the group in accomplishing the goals. I have therefore, set the following goals based on the SMART criteria, that is, they are specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. 2.2. Learning Goal & Related Activity I was able to develop different areas which highlighted that I was high on emotional intelligence, Conscientiousness and a high Goal Orientation. The development of the competency helped me to perform better and took part in the different requirements of the team. Starting in 2012, I will buy a folder every semester for each of my university subjects to keep my research and work in, ensuring that they are not misplaced. To be more effective and organized I will look to hear from other team mates and ensure proper understanding before moving ahead. I have understood the importance of developing the required emotional intelligence helps will provide me the required scope through which I will be more attentive and appreciate what other team members say. This is imperative in the development of my future and will help to shape my performance by bringing the required changes which will help me to perform better as a lawyer and will look at meeting the different expectations. 3. Interpersonal Effectiveness 3.1. Belbin’s Self Perception Inventory This tool has been developed to make employees understand the manner in which they are able to contribute towards the team role (Belbin, 1981). When people know the role they have to perform than based on their strengths they are able to guide their behavior which will ensure goal accomplishment. Beblin (1981) has further stressed that a good productive team is one where different members perform different roles which complement each other and thereby help to overcome the weakness of other so that the goals can be achieved. The self perception test shows that I am a shaper and a company worker. Belbin (1981), has stated that as a shaper I am able to handle pressure and am ready for new challenges; and as a company worker I am committed and organized but at times inflexible. This was seen in the presentation result which I received from the course BSB124 which highlighted my behavior. The results shows that I look to accomplish the task which is assigned to me and is disciplined and come well planned regarding the things that has to be done. It was further seen that I continuously try to encounter new things and am ready for the new challenges. The overall result shows that I will be able to deal with new obstacle and am committed and look to be prepared for any thing which comes to me and reach defensively to different situations. This is imperative for a lawyer as it will help to meet deadlines and carry out the different roles and responsibilities in the most desired manner thereby ensuring better accomplishment of the goals. 3.2. CATME Analysis CATME tool is used which is used to understand the experience of the team member at a specific situation where each member rates themselves and other against some predetermined criteria. The result helped to analyze that I was mostly consistent with the rating which I gave myself and the rating others gave to me. It was analyzed that I had a very similar or close rating to what the other team member gave me which helps to state that I was constructive in giving a correct and true feedback. I was effective as a member in the group and was able to contribute positively I am happy with the role that I performed. The fact that I was able to contribute positively towards the team and fulfilled the responsibilities that were entrusted to me by the team I am happy to state that the team was able to perform well and got the desired result. Our team comprised of people having different knowledge and experience and I was able to contribute positively by ensuring that no differences existed (Carlopio and Andrewartha, 2008). Further, I was also willing to help the other team members and aimed towards maximum commitment towards the team which thereby helped me to contribute positively towards the team goal. It has been a great learning curve as I have understood the importance of understanding the work which is important and the manner in which the work has to be carried out so that better achievement of goals becomes possible. This has helped me to understand the importance of receiving proper feedback from different members and understand the manner in which the external environment has an influence on decision making and will thereby shape my carrer as a lawyer by helping to learn the important things. 3.3. Learning Goal & Related Activity To be successful in the future I look at improving my interpersonal skills further which will focus on better relationship within and outside the group. I am further aiming to improve my communication skills by being clear and appreciating others comments and feedback and integrating a process where people are allowed to contribute within the group. This has been stated by Schneider and Barsoux’s (2003) by saying that the success of a team is largely dependent on the manner the members are able to use the skills of each member and ensure contribution of each member so that value can be added to the entire team working. I have also understood the importance of having positive relationship within the group as it helps to cover the weakness and ensure maximum productivity in using the different resources. Kolb’s (1984) has stated that experiment helps to learn different competencies and acts as a method through which better learning is facilitated. Keeping this in mind I look at being a part of different social networking sites which will help develop better and long term relations and develop the required contacts which will help in the future. I am looking to become a lawyer which will require that I develop the require contacts and networking with people through which I will be able to attract people and clients. I have therefore, set the following goals based on the SMART criteria, that is, they are specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. I thereby look at developing the required list which will act as a point through which I am able to develop better relations. 4. Conclusion I have provided the reflection for BSB124 with regard to intrapersonal and interpersonal traits and the manner SMART objectives were addressed through it. The report discusses Learning Style Profiler-Jackson 2009 model and will help to determine the manner in which intrapersonal effectiveness will be gained along with CATME feedback in terms of my interpersonal effectiveness. This has helped to identify the areas which will help to improve effectiveness and will help to bring the required turnaround through which I will be able to advance in my lawyer profession in the future. 5.
