Critical Thinking Task Critical Thinking Define critical thinking. Critical thinking refers to the ability of an individual to think both rationally as well as clearly. It is a concept that incorporates the ability of a person to engage in independent and reflective thinking. As such, an individual with critical thinking skills has the ability to solve problems systematically, identify, construct, and evaluate arguments, identify the relevance and importance of ideas, as well as reflect on the justification of one’s own values and beliefs.

Furthermore, such as person can understand the logical connection between ideas and reflect on the justification of their own values and beliefs. 2. How do critical thinking skills relate to your likely major or career? If they do not, explain why.My major is Electrical and Computer Engineering. Critical thinking enables me to reason both clearly and rationally when facing a challenge at my work place, such as what could be the cause of a malfunctioning computer system, or an electrical connection.

This empowers me to connect every event leading to such a system failure thereby placing me in the best position to deduce a positive approach to tackling the situation. As such, I am able to apply both logic and reason while handling my duties, all thanks to critical thinking.3. Do you agree or disagree with the following quote from the article, it takes more than a major? Why or why not?".a candidates demonstrated capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve problems is more important than their undergraduate major" (pg. 4.) This statement is very true.

Therefore, i agree with it. This is because knowledge has no importance to a person if he or she cannot apply it. As such, the student above is well in a position to apply the knowledge he learns from school, going by his capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, as well as solve problems. A grandaunt that is not able to apply his knowledge in tackling everyday situations is just as useless as one who did not go to school, thereby making his undergraduate major unimportant.
