The paper "Sustainable Business Development" is an excellent example of an essay on business. The transport sector plays an important role in every economy in the world. However, there are different issues that are attributed to this sector that most people term as paradoxical. The transport sector conveys socioeconomic benefits. In most cases, it is always associated with negative environmental impacts. The sector mostly uses automobiles to transport people and cargo from one place to the other. The impacts can either be direct or indirect as well as cumulative (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1999).

To start with, the transport sector is the core user of energy as compared to other sectors. It consumes most of the world’s petroleum. In most cases, this causes air pollution in the forms of nitrous oxides as well as particulates. Most people believe that this is one of the major causes of global warming as a lot of carbon dioxide is normally emitted into the environment.

Secondly, most of the developed countries in the world have formulated environmental regulations that act as a guidance of how issues in this sector should be handled. The main aim of these regulations is to reduce the number and cases of emissions of individual vehicles (Transport Policy Advisory Services, 2010). However, this regulation has been greatly challenged by the increase in the number of individual automobiles.

Most stakeholders in this industry are investing in research in order to come up with ways and means of reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the environment from the automobiles. Further, it has also been established that different modes of transport emit differently into the environment. Most environmentalists advocate transport electrification especially in the rail sector in order to control this challenge. This will drastically reduce the rate of pollution while increasing energy efficiency (EPA, n.d).

Thirdly, in most developed and developing nations, the transport sector normally causes a lot of transport congestion in their cities. The reason behind this is that most individuals prefer having their cars to cater for their daily transport needs and it is time convenient. There is also the issue of urban sprawl that is mostly automobile-oriented. This mainly consumes natural habitats people will look and create space to park their cars. This is a possible cause of the reduction of the agricultural lands. According to most environmentalists, when we reduce all kinds of pollution caused by the transport sector, there will be positive effects. This is in terms of fresh air to breathe, clean waters and an improvement in climate change.

The transport sector also has an effect on the health of human beings (Transport Policy Advisory Services 2010). A recent report demonstrated that the sector affects women's health especially when pregnant.  It was reported that it had adverse and serious effects during this period as it caused intrauterine growths.

Conclusion

Despite the great contributions attributed to the transport sector in the world today, possible remedies should be sought in order to curb the negative impacts caused by the sector. The government and other stakeholders involved in this sector should formulate regulations that are aimed at improving the sector.
