Introduction Religions have had an evolving relationship with the modern states/global politics. Due to such relations it has borne political contentions and legitimacy in various regions. Religious appearances and power is no longer limited to private space, but extended into the public life. Apparently, religious doctrines have been to address daily concerns, solve conflicts and in leadership, but also to enable the participants in state affairs influence and achieve their political goals.

Scholars describing the relations between Islamic and Hindu religious and the experienced political cultures involve several theoretical terminologies: religious movements, opposition to secularism, nationalism, religious fundamentalism Religious fundamentalism: The phenomenon of Islamic and Hindu fundamentalism upholds strict beliefs and adherence of the principles. With this leaders strategically use them to construct around lines of thoughts to easily influence and mobile the society for their political agenda.

They can motivate for change and facilitate setting of political conditions and manifestations in a state. Religious affiliated movements: The emergence of religious movements and parties are associated with promotion of religious fundamentalism and idealism. Islamic movements in Arab world and Hindu movements have in the past acted as revolutionary organized mass. From the Muslim world, Islamic revolutionary movements have in places led to development of opposition to challenge the governments, some have aided in establishment of political Islamic states and pursuit of democracy (Mandaville 103).

Hindu nationalist movements and BJP are State oriented Hindu party deeply entrenched in religious values and but also powerful active political groups in support of conservativeness. Religious nationalism: Religious traditions of the people in a nation tend to shape their nationalism, which in turn is key to influence and shaping their political ideology. For example, I India, Hindu is taken to be the majority’s religious identity. It is then taken to serve as the basis of the nationalists’ identity and advocated in parties like BJP that emphasize on Hinduism (“Religious” 1).

It is a similar reflection of Islamic states that embrace Muslims’ identity and enforce Islamic values in governance and its general political leadership. Secularism: The modern trend with increasing globalization and linking of economies and societies has been motivation for change in governance structures across MENA regions and Asia continents. Citizens and especially the younger people push for separation of the states from the religion to the establishment of better secular sovereign states.

Religious bodies have either served to support and legitimate secular regimes or withdraw their support from the governing structure (whether religious or secular) to one they favor.
