The paper "Reflective Portfolio on the Module Business Functions and Processes" is a great example of management coursework.   From the beginning of the course, I knew that I would be expected to write a reflection detailing my experience with the course and I have been making summaries of my experiences in every lesson. However, I did not understand the immerse understanding that the actual writing of the reflection would give me on the module. According to the module outline, the course promised to give me and understanding of the functions that make up and organization.

It also had the aim of giving me an understanding of the business market and the models in the market as Pinto (2007) emphasis. This would prepare me on the functions and the processes that take place in the organization thus I will be in a better position to develop competence in facing the problems the organizations are faced with and come up with practical solutions on this problems. This seemed an ambitious promise when I began the module, but now I understand what all that means.

I have gained what the course promised and more. First, I wanted to understand that reflection means and what it does. According to Imel (1992), the reflective practice requires “ individuals to assume the perspectives of an external observer in order to identify the assumptions and feelings underlying their practice and then to speculate about how these assumptions and feelings affect practice” (p. 1). This means that I would assume the place of an observer and observe myself going through the course and examine the things I have learnt and how the process of taking the module has affected me. Reflective practice will touch on the cognitive, motivational and affective components of an individual.

This means that in carrying out this practice, the mind is able to observe and investigate itself which will include also the emotions that go with it. Rosenberg (2010) says that self-reflection results incoherence between thoughts, motivation, feelings and behaviour. Lama & Goleman (2003) note that this process is able to derive intelligence in an individual. It is this intelligence that will cement the knowledge I have gained throughout the module.

In simple terms, I personalise the module and it becomes alive. Week 1: Introduction The first week was a tutorial session in which the teacher gave us the introduction of the module. It is during this time that the students were introduced to each and we were integrated into the group. We recognised the different nationalities and cultures we had represented in the students. Basically this class was to break the ice as well as prepare the students for what was ahead in the course. In this class, we got to understand the aims of the module and what one would benefit by going through the module successfully.

This class did not only help to understand what was expected of me in the module, but it also helped me to raise my expectations on what the module would help me with. One of my expectations is the process of developing a critical and analytical approach in solving problems as Brown et al. , (2013) indicates.
