The paper “Sustainability as a Key Issue for Waitrose and Tesco” is a dramatic example of the case study on business. Sustainability refers to the essence of a firm being able to operate in the environment profitably and without depleting the natural resources or jeopardizing its existence in the environment. It is also the economic development maintained at an acceptable level of industry standards and regulations in relation to the company’s corporate objective of perpetual business operation and continued survival. Sustainability mainly focuses on the natural resources the t the organization applies in the manufacture of its products or the general resources that the firm deals in. however, resource concern may be natural resources or manmade; the bottom line in sustainability is ensuring that they are not unfavorably depleted because they are going to cause the business of the organization to come to a standstill in the future. The companies carrying out retail business in the UK that are Tesco, Waitrose, and many other retail outlets have to really exercise concern over the resources they use in their business and that is what I am going to look at in this analysis. Firms that have in the past neglected this issue as portrayed in Tesco’s report and others, have to really do a lot concerning sustainability as this is the only issues that many firms are pursuing, both in the UK and outside, in an attempt to make them stand above all their competitors. Tesco and Waitrose have to take the issue of sustainability with a lot of concern because of the following;
These two firms are retail shops that deal with food staff and other consumables especially household consumer goods. These goods have a limited quantity just like any other economic good. Therefore they have to be applied sustainably otherwise they are going to deplete and these retail outlets will not get a place to get stock for perpetuating their business of being in business. For example, concerning the issue of fish, these retailers should avoid accepting the supply of certain species because it is an endangered one. By so doing, they uphold the spirit of conservation which is culminated in sustainability.
