INTRODUCTION

In modern times, learning has become a major part of our daily life. Right from the kindergarten stage of schooling, we start life’s journey by learning how to transit from our domicile to a more formal educational system. Then go through the primary and secondary stages, to the university stage of schooling, where we do research and higher learning.

We spend most of our early life in school studying so that we can become better people in the future. The minimum school life expectancy in the world is 7.5 years in eastern and southern Africa, while in the industrial countries it is 12.6 years (Huebler 2005). Studying is not an easy task. It takes time and dedication to understand what we are being taught. Sometimes, we have to go to grave lengths to achieve in our various academics, but at the end of the day, we smile at our achievements because we would have made, possibly, landmarks in our fields of study.

Awards are, sometimes, given to students to congratulate them for their achievements. Awards given to students contribute greatly to their efforts put into learning. It is something every student would want. It is something every student dreams to have. When honour is received by a student for his/her hard work in studies, it is a thing of joy, gladness and happiness to that student. It helps the student boost their status in their society. It gives them recognition.
