And from catering to translating, there are many options for a grafting undergraduate education. This article is extracted from the gale database. The print screen below shows the search results from which the two articles were selected from; d) Evaluation essay Working while studying Introduction A student working while studying is not an amusing scenario in today’s very demanding world. In order to sustain themselves, many campus students currently seek part-time jobs within the vicinity of their colleges. Proceeds from part-time employment are not only the pocket money for the students subsistence expenditures but also critical on job skills and work experience. The later are very essential in their curriculum vitae as most employers are desirous to employer people with work experience. In the traditional education systems most people concentrated on their studies and later began a job hunting mission. This process has proved to be very backward in that most students do have a few hours as their free time and they can capitalise on this to ensure that they have acquired additional and practical skills on the job market. Paper will analyse two presentations on working while studying. Why work study programs and part-time work is necessary in the current education systems Working while studying has been perceived by many especially parents as being a disruptive to the education programs. This notion has further promoted the idea of focussed study. Most students in the today’s universities have been appreciative of the work study programs because it has earned them money to sustain their basic needs in college. These needs cannot satisfactorily be meet by their parents or even student loans. According to Curtis & John (2002), the increasing debts to students have forced them to seek further payment from part-time employment and some even could have quitted university were it not of the part-time jobs they have been doing. The need for part-time job therefore has been much more driven by the high cost of living and the less financing awarded to the university students. The experienced gained by students on part-time employment has been found to be very beneficial to the overall learning process. The experience not only brings out the practical application of different lessons but it also enhances the understanding of the students on various theories. Some student are privileged to be on a work study program that is relevant to their training program and this has much more benefits of providing practical skills and enhancing the students’ employability prospects on completion of their education programs. Most employers do absorb the students who have in their studies program worked with them on part time or during summers. The work study programs have not only given the students the financial and experience gains but it has also equipped them with very crucial skills like; increased confidences, analytical and problem solving skills, time management and even corporate communication skills. These interpersonal skills mostly are learned through socializing and are essential skills most corporate employers are looking for in their workforce. Setbacks of working while studying Even though with much benefits, working while studying programs do pose lots of challenges especially to students since it adds some burden to them. Most students on part-time programs do give financial reasons for their desire to work not academic. This brings the nature of the general dissatisfaction the students do have inherently regarding the part-time work. Most students do have pressures relating to their studies and work and this has been a major source of stress amongst students. Earning from the part-time employment has been blamed for significantly contributing to the increasing number of students of drug abuse and alcoholism habits. These challenges have further lead to increased number of students dropping out of colleges. Conclusion As much as we find part-time work while on college a challenge to the attainment of academic goals by students, there should be further understanding that it facilitates the increased quality of education and employability of graduates. Part-time work and study should therefore be balanced in such a way that the student shall not lose focus on their study goals but rather it adds more vigour to critical research and learning. A good part-time work should therefore be relevant to the area of study of a student. Both articles do agree that working while studying is currently unstoppable as long as the challenges of financing and job experience as still at large. The research paper on ‘The reluctant workforce: undergraduates’ part-time employment’ is a well researched academic paper by senior professors of management.
