Literature review on Strategic management According to Charles & Mangematin (2013) in their article, they argue that most research that are conducted on business models lies in the literature on the management strategy and having an aggressive advantage over other competitors in the same market structure. In this article, they note that the vital role and actual phenomenon of a business that should be understood by the business managers researchers and academics. They also give strong emphasis on the need of an organizational relationship on traditional value chain distributors with how customers are identified and satisfied by services and products from a business venture. Connectively, the articles note how a firm has the ability to monetizes its value, additionally it also explore the methods used by business model with the aim of creating a working business model configurations that can extend the current and also open up new possibilities for organization research Charles & Mangematin (2013). Through the use of strategic organization models, business develops and also gains considerable traction in the business press in its community. Such models are taken as real phenomena and useful business instruments that give useful lists between elements in the firm and to those outside the business. The article is useful to students; researchers and managers in the corporate world since it address all venue of strategic management in a business giving a recommendation that should be followed. Yang & Eppler (2008), clearly acknowledge that there have been many strategies that can lead to a failure of a business. According to their article, most businesses fail not necessary due to inadequate strategy formation but due to insufficient implementation. Strategic formulations often receive more attention and funding as opposed to its implementation. Yang & Eppler (2008) review the main factors that help impede efficient strategy execution and assessment the state-of-the-art in the area. They also carry out a summary of other researchers making it to be more dependable by giving relevant information on strategic management. Factors that determine how effective a strategic plan is to be formulated and implemented are highlighted in the article where they are identified using different topic. However, the article lacks an originality since it is all written based on other peoples finding of strategic management. Nevertheless, it remains very relevant and useful for further studies. For any strategic management to be efficient then it has to have an effective implementation team (Yang & Eppler 2008) According to (Bryson & Berry 2001) strategic planning and other related strategic management elements that are used in corporate world have turned to become ubiquitous practices at all organizational levels in the United States government and many non-profit making organizations over the past 25 years. The authors of the article take a detailed review on strategic planning and other management research using the premises of practice theory mainly to guide the discussion. (Bryson & Berry 2001) have organized the article in ten research directions making it easy to for persons reading it to retrieve information from it as it is organized in an order. Additionally, (Bryson & Berry 2001) have also proposed four new research directions that include the need to attend more fully to the nature and nurture of strategic management practices, the need to focus on learning and knowledge management as part of strategic management alternatively, the focus on how the strategy knowledge shall be utilized in the development and understanding on how the information and communication technologies can be used to integrate them into strategic management. This article is well-organized with vital information on strategic management where it uses current and future challenges and improvements in the long-term performance. The article is best-used by students from any level of education since it is written in simple words that can be understood by every person. Connectively, it has researched on recommendations that should be adopted to ensure that strategic management is achieved. By merely following the four, recommended goals, a business venture will have an effective strategic management (Bryson & Berry 2001) The article gives a brief history on strategic management and strategic leadership in organizations. According to Mark & Zhovtobryukh (2013), for an organization to work best it should have several leaders at all levels of the association, therefore, making a working network approach to strategic leadership. The article’s rationale is to re-conceptualize the strategic leadership by advancing understanding of effects of variations in interior complexity and external confusion and the effects of choices by the tactical leadership based on the those variations. They recommend a model of strategic leadership with a set of highly dynamic role changes that are mainly based on social capital. Since the article is researched based on history through observation of organization for a period of many years where organizations were involved directly and indirectly, therefore, giving a reflection of theories on how strategic leadership in both medium and large-size profit-oriented organization (Mark & Zhovtobryukh 2013). On the other hand, the article also expands the research on shared leadership by making introduction of four generic forms of strategic leadership that include stars, teams, clans and networks. The generic forms are used in predicting presentation outcomes depending leading the degree of internal difficulty and the amount of external environment turbulence. Based on the author’s research, the article is relevant and useful in any study since by looking at the four element, it is possible to make a strategic plan in management as they can be used in making predictions (Mark & Zhovtobryukh 2013), Cross (2014) is a prominent lecturer who has lectured as an adjunct professor of law and business topics she has also practiced law in Tennessee and contributed more as a business writer to news publications and other business related journals. Due to her vast knowledge on business her article is useful in business study, according to (Cross 2014), strategic management involves aligning business goals actions plans with workplace performance objectives. Alternatively, in any developing performance, a manager must clearly assess a company’s mission, goals, objective, vision and values. Cross 2014) says that a business, corporate environment and competitive situation are also evaluated to identify their growth. Issues that are faced by a company makes it to devise solutions to counter any challenging situation that may arise therefore making the company to allocate responsibilities and roles to people in the organization to lead teams for carrying strategic goals. Cross (2014) notes that an effective strategic plan involves developing precise business goals that are SMART, which is a short, form for specific, measurable, achievable relevant and timely. (Cross 2014) divides her article into the four business goals discussing each in the business perspective. This article is best when used as a basis for carrying out an extensive research. The article is applicable in every business strategic plan. Short et al. (2012) point out that strategic management researchers often note the incapability of many phenomena to constantly explain organizational routine. Connectively, Statistical analysis on the strategic management through sample selection on empirical results is done by trying one popular association from the strategy literature. Such empirical studies are useful in helping formulate a more effective strategic management plan that is workable in a given situation. Short et al. (2012) note that a strategy formation and implementation are seen as a craft rather than a science thus not unanticipated that after an all-inclusive strategy or single strategic decision has been formulated. Additionally, Short et al. (2012) also note a little controversy regarding the labelling of the strategy implementation would make a strategic plan not to work for the organization it is prepared for. Connectively, the article indicates that any different strategy implementation from strategy execution in any business interferes with the implementation process of the formed strategic management plan. However, Short et al. (2012) notes that any strategic formulation strategy is difficult in its implementation level as compared with its formation stage. Therefore, every organization should be more interested in the implementation of the made strategy that its formation (Short et al. 2012) Hill & Gareth (2012) are highly respected with cutting-edge research on topics that include corporate performance, governance business ethics and strategic leadership. They lecture at the university of Washington business school; they have published more than 50 articles and other peer-reviewed academic journals that have served on the editorial boards including a strategic management journals and articles. Jones got his Ph.D. from the University of Lancaster England Based on real-world practices and present thinking in the pasture the strategic features tend to increase the importance on the changing worldwide economy and its function in strategic management (Hill, & Gareth 2012). Due to their vast knowledge in business and strategic management their book is relevant and useful in any study that involves business. They give information for medium and small business enterprises on strategic management. According to Hill & Gareth (2012), an effective strategic plan should be used as a road map that directs the organization to achieving the organizational goal. (Hill & Gareth 2012) Conclusion Through SWOT analysis, an organization may be able to conduct an effective strategic management. Every organization needs to achieve competitive advantage against its rivals and outperform its competition such as superior market position, skills or resources. This paper has conclusively identified varying perspectives and perceptions in regard to strategic management and has given a view to what others have had to say as pertains to the wider perception of strategic management and how effectively such enables a business to ideally meet its set objectives. The paper has tried to merge different thoughts in an attempt to seek a common point in which strategic management protocols has been developed and how effective these have been in management systems.
