My Story I was born on a Friday, 23 January 1944. I went through my life certificates 70 years later. My entire life isa journey that I would revisit every opportunity I have before my last breath. Since is I was a child my mother used to tell how successful I would become after a few years. Her prayer was also a motivation in my life as I knew somebody had a vision of a successful version of me. However, it made more reluctant since I realized my mother had a plan for me. She did not have a plan, however, she had hope. Hope that something would happen and enable to me to step up and become a significant person in the society. Just as she hoped, a plan came up but not the intended one. I can justify to this as I watch one of my greatest creations at the comfort of my own kingdom. This is my story. Since I realized I am a person and my life revolved people close to me, I could describe myself as poor. I do not have the memory of my father as my mother played the role of both my dad and mother in my life. I also was the only child as my mother told me she did not have the will to give me neither brother nor a sister. As I grew up I understood her situation. We lived in a three roomed house. Our sitting room also functioned as kitchen. However, this was helpful since I could not evade my mom’s cooking lessons. It reached a point where I would strive to be at home exactly before time to watch her cook. This made her happy as she felt happy the only man in her life appreciated her. She too had only me in her life. As I grew older, I realized people had a role in their life. I could see adults with fancy attires o to work. My mother also had a job but her job was not fancy. I also realized that children of my age attended institutions where they wore uniforms and carried bag packs. Later I learnt that they went to school as my mother explained. I wondered why I could not attend school. My mother could not afford feeding us, paying rent and also send me to school. At the time, food and rent were most important that school. In addition, most children in my neighborhood could not attend school. Some shared the same challenges with me but some were just dropouts. Each and every day my mother could cry for denying me education but I wondered why she could do it and my situation could not bother. It was until a time I had access to a newspaper and I could not understand most information written in it. I realized I lacked something that could enable a person write a newspaper and I could not even write what they wrote. To date I have the newspaper as my first motivation to acquire knowledge. I then realized the value of money and how wealth separated people in the society (White 55). I knew that were living in our social status because we lacked money and wealth to advance (White 56). At the time, I had Mark as my best friend. He was also from a poor family and did not attend school. We could spend most of our times gazing in wealthy estates and dream of how amazing it could be if we lived in such apartments. Nevertheless, it was just a delusion as at the close of the day I could go back home and try to understand the information in the newspaper I treasured. I realized I could help my mother to earn some money to sustain us. I also needed money to for personal needs. However, my mother did not like the idea of me working at a young age and people would mock me for not attending school. I could wait until she left for work as a house help in the wealthy estates as I could also seek employment from small places in our neighborhood. My first occupation was at a neighboring restaurant as a garbage boy. I could carry garbage out three times in a day and I could be paid at the end of the day. In the restaurant I could relate the activities to the cooking experience I had with my mother. After a few months, I was a waiter in the same restaurant and I could sometime prepare beverages for the clients. I developed a personal relationship with the owner of the restaurant who was also the main cook. At one time my mum came in and I had to hide in the kitchen. The owner of the café would then tell me I could cook since I was so afraid of people realizing what I did. From a personal perspective, that was my first time to cook as a professional. At least I could cook and be paid for it. The kitchen work much easier as I could interact with few people and I could put into practice my childhood experience from my mother. At the time I had lost hope in education as I realized it did not provided a simpler way to be wealthy. In addition, my mother had done enough for me and provide me with education would out her through so much. Moreover, my age could not allow me to go to school from the required level. My employer could share his story with me of how he did not have education and still owned the place. He did not advocate for illiteracy but he encouraged me not to expect much in life (White 77). His situation was worse since he did not have any family member. He operated the restaurant out of passion. He almost took the place of my father as he educated me on masculinity matters that my mother could not share with me. At the time me mother knew of my work at the restaurant and she always motivated me to work. One year later, he died and to my disbelief he left his restaurant under my name. At the time I was 17, but my experience at the restaurant and with the owner was enough to enable me function as the head. However, I still required a person from who I could motivation. My mother could later join me in the restaurant. Her working as a cook in wealthy states provided her with cooking knowledge. She helped me create new recipes. We were able to save money since we moved to large apartment at the back of the restaurant. On my 18th birthday, our restaurant was the largest in our entire city. We expanded the restaurant ad created recipes that could fit the status of both the wealth and the poor. As I recount my life today and look back at my life, I never realized why a person could offer me a restaurant. However, my mother would later tell me that the owner of the restaurant was my father. I could not ask much of him but I realized family was an important aspect of the society. At my old age, I could sit and watch my five grandchildren play around my house and thank my father. My mother passed on years back but she enjoyed the benefits of her hard work at the helm of the largest catering school in the country. Work Cited White, Harrison.
