The paper "Skills and Abilities Important to the Potential Employer of a Business Management Graduate" is an excellent example of an assignment on human resources. I thought about the important skills and abilities for a potential employer of a Business Management Graduate by considering a business activity and the kinds of duties that managers would do in it. I chose a manager of a fast-food outlet. I considered that the important skills would be marketing, communication, financial management, leadership, information technology, conflict-management, and diversity skills.  These are general managerial skills that can be applied even for other kinds of businesses and for both small and big businesses.

I read the skills in Cameron (2010).  “Key Skills for Learning and Employment” and identified many other skills, namely cognitive, problem-solving, self-management, research, technology, interpersonal, teamwork, learning, and self-awareness skills (pp.7-8). I thought about cognitive skills and how they would include critical thinking. Cognitive skills are memory skills, the ability to learn new information, understanding speech, and written texts, and reasoning skills. Sometimes, memory skills can be a challenge because we watch or hear many media and corporate messages. I have found out that multitasking can be bad for memory skills too, so I try not to multitask and do activities and assignments one at a time.

To that, Cameron (2010) added analysis and synthesis. Analytical skills need logical thinking to analyze problems. I like logic and taking time to analyze situations, options, and recommendations. Synthesis means combining different parts to find new and different knowledge or ways. For me, this means flexibility. I see myself as a flexible person. I can adapt to different problems. I think my greatest difficulty would be flexibility in extremely challenging situations that have time limits. This means working and making decisions with many people that can be hard when there are conflicts already because of the pressure involved.
