Proposal of a training program Introduction Chevron Philips Chemical is among the leading companies in the petrochemical industry. Its specialties are olefins, polyolefin, aromatics, alpha olefins, strings, piping, and proprietary plastics. Apart from these products there are lists of other material that is produced by the company, and is used in the manufacturing of more than 70,000 consumer and industrial products. The company runs 36 manufacturing and research centers and its headquarter is situated in the Woodlands, Texas. Currently, the number of employees recruited by the company exceeds the total of 5000. With so many living subjects under one’s belt, it becomes the duty of employer to offer safety and security to all the members of the team, in order to obtain optimum performance.

Occupational safety is one of the leading concerns for the employers of today, as it is their duty to ensure health and safety of their employees. In petrochemical industry workers are exposed to several health risks, they are exposed to poisonous gases, carcinogenic compounds, and other harmful substance[Reb95]. Therefore, it is imperative to apply standard health and safety protocols in order to minimize the chances of unwanted events[Koc94].

Therefore, one proposes that the company should arrange a training course of occupation safety and health for the employees working in the production unit of Chevron Philips Chemical, Saudi Arabia. Plan The implementation of the occupational safety and health plan requires indigenous involvement of all the members in the organization; this includes employees, managers, directors, and employers. For the sake of establishing a healthy work environment at the industrial units of Chevron Philips Chemical, Saudi Arabia, the company can take aid from the occupational safety and health consultants.

These consultancies not only offer packages for running a successful training program, but they also monitor the situation of the company and evaluate the impact of the program. Chevron Philips Chemical must define its health and safety policy at the work place, it should try to design the policy in such a manner that satiates all the demands of standard protocols devised for industrial units. The next step will be to communicate the message among the administrative and technical staff in the organization. The training will be provided by the occupational safety and health consultants, who can either be hired on temporary basis, or the company may sign a contract.

The training plan will be designed by the consultant in such a way that it takes minimum time to train the workers at the work station in Saudi Arabia. The mode of training must be in bilingual terms, as there are people who only understand Arabic, and the other language to be used must be a common one, English is recommended. The training program must evaluate the performance of the workers in the organization, not only in the training sessions, but also in post-training phase.

Apart from training the labor, the company must ensure to validate its production units by monitoring its equipment, facilities, and discharges[Reb95]. Conclusion The Operational Safety and Health Act passed by U. S. Congress in 1970; however, it is a very useful law. Every country has its own offerings for the safety of laborers, but the protocol defined and standards established with respect to OSHA are globally accepted, and implemented. Chevron Philip Chemical offers are range of petrochemical products to their customers, but to produce all the fine products, the technicians and staff of Chevron Philips Chemical has to face tremendous health stress.

Therefore, the company needs to train its employees up to the global standards of the occupational safety and health. This will not only prevent the employees from falling sick, but will generate profits and revenue increment. References Reb95:, (Rebitzer, 1995), Koc94:, (Kochan, Smith, Wells, & Rebitzer, 1994),
