Personal Skills Introduction: Transferable skills of management refer to those skills that can be used in different employments and institutions with ease. These skills include the analytical skills, the interpersonal communication issues, making of presentations, writing, manipulation of data and figures, innovation and entrepreneurship, leadership and management capabilities, membership in different teams, methods of development, training, teaching and learning, and technical competencies that are extremely necessary for any organization and its employees (Ackerman 2006). The need for transferable skills arises with the competencies that are needed in business organizations. Thus while individuals are completing their higher education they possess the need to develop such skills (Transferable Skills n.d.). The present study focuses on such transferable skills and discusses the major issues related to transferable skills encountered by the UK and the EU governments. Transferable Skills of Time Management: Transferable skills of time management reflect the way in which an individual can plan all his due projects to be submitted within time. Certain tasks are related to specific objectives and thus need specific scheduling. Using the right technology, materials and facilities for the tasks to be completed at the right time is essential. It is also needed for an individual to be self-dependent doing his own work on time as well as making scheduled plans for his team reflecting effective leadership and management. The progress of the tasks needs to be monitored as part of the scheduling process and one need to be persistent in his performance (Ellis 2012). Thus these are the transferable skills that enable individuals to manage their time effectively in order to complete and deliver all necessary tasks and projects on time. Working With Others: While completing higher education and later on carrying on with the career life, one needs to have certain interpersonal skills, particularly when they have to work along with others either as team or at the workplaces. Skills of communication are extremely essential for this purpose. It is essential to interact effectively, listen to others such that one can be accepted well in the workplace benefitting the timely completion of tasks along with healthy relationships in the workplace with all. Powers of goof communication and negotiation are certain interpersonal skills that one needs to develop in order to be successful within an organization, and such skills are initially developed at the higher education institutes (What are Interpersonal Skills? 2013). Use of ICT and Managing Learning: Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) has become extremely vital in present day learning and education. With ICTs the modern system of learning and education has developed significantly, thereby developing the ways in which individuals can learn and manage their learning. With information technologies, the traditional forms of teaching are available in the classrooms but along with that the benefits include making notes and study structure available online such that students can access them even when they are not in classrooms. Also, since internet has its widespread use in the present day world, with ICTs involved in learning management, students get the facilities and opportunities to learn and utilize the use of internet technology before they enter the professional life. Thus it helps to manage the learning process of the students without affecting the classroom based teaching (Punie, Zinnbauer and Cabrera 2008). Academic Skills: Different academic skills also develop students. Individuals need to learn how to identify and choose the correct information and sources for their learning to be more effective. For this students need to make use of internet sources as well and carry out detailed research to identify the right sources for their learning. This is also a part of the transferable and interpersonal skills that students develop while they are in their higher education institution. Without such skills students generally do not feel confident, while on the other hand there are significant evaluations on whether the right sources are being utilized by the students (Remenyi 2008). Thus with guidance and knowledge, the academic skills of the students also gradually get developed. Critical Reading: Critical reading is another essential skill that is learnt during higher education. When a study material is critically read by the students, the students do not simply read it. Rather, they make necessary judgments in their minds in regard to what they are reading. Thus this is a reflective skill that the student develops. It allows the student to develop skills and power to use his own arguments and critical thinking towards understanding what is reading instead of just gathering the information. This is achieved through identifying the main aim or purpose of the text that is being read, followed by making judgments on the text using personal arguments and understanding. The facts and examples can be studied and analyzed to see whether they are evident and correctly associated with the matter of the text. Finally the text can be evaluated in the mind thereby allowing these steps to improve the critical thinking of the learners (Knott n.d.). Note Taking: Note taking in classrooms is another essential skill for students to learn and develop. An individual who is able to take good notes within the classrooms has the higher chances of scoring well since he has his own clear understanding of what has been taught in the class on each specific subject. It also helps in reducing the risks of plagiarism. It enables students to identify their own critical thinking with the teachings in the classrooms and thus critically evaluate the teaching notes as well. Effective skills for note taking involves the students to identification of the main ideas, identification of the important information necessary for the tasks, following a note taking procedure that proves to be helpful for the individual, use of notes and diagrams for note taking making it easier to recognize, using own words for explanation, and recording the source from which the information has been gathered (Note Taking Skills An Introduction n.d.). Academic Writing: Academic writing is also an essential part of learning skills that need to be effective in order to communicate one’s ideas and information to others in the form of writing. The skills of academic writing involve teaching the students about the correct vocabulary and grammar such the written communication can be well informed and well presented for the readers. Academic writing skills teaches students to be consistent in their writing, to be rightly formal while writing, to communicate ideas in a precise manner, to be succinct and to be objective (Using English for Academic Purposes n.d.). Business, Economy, and Government: Major Issue Facing the UK Government: Considering the world of business and economy, one of the major issues that the UK government is encountered with is the fiscal or budget deficit that has significantly affected the national debt of the country over the recent years. With the former labor administration spending too much and wasting huge amounts of funds, the present problem has arisen. Thus the economic state of the country has been affected with a credit crunch being prevalent over the recent years owing to this financial crisis. Thus it is the responsibility of the new administration of the country to reduce the burden of the budget deficit (The Economic Issues facing the new UK government 2010). This particular issue can be associated with the need of the country for such people in the administration who can effectively deal with the issue and solve the problem with effective measures. For this individuals who take the charges need to be efficient in transferable and interpersonal skills as well in order to work effectively in teams (Ackerman 2006). Such skills are necessary since without these team works may not be successful and for the current situation of UK to recover, the new administration needs to look up for teams to work together and develop and implement effective measures. Major Issue Facing the EU Government: The EU government has also been presenting a poor picture of its economic state of condition over the recent years that have become a major issue facing the country. The deteriorating economic condition of the country has led to issues like unemployment, reduced growth of the economy along with affecting the social welfare of the people (Economic Problems of European Union 2013). Thus in this case as well, the country is in need for such individuals who have effectively developed the transferable and interpersonal skills such that they can effectively work towards the recovery of the country’s economy and development of individuals towards employment opportunities. Conclusion: From the above study, it could be realized that the transferable and interpersonal skills are extremely essential for individuals to develop such that they can perform effectively in any organization. Such skills are offered to individuals when they are in their higher education institutes thus providing them the opportunities to get the right employment at the right places and perform effectively there helping the organization grow successfully. This is evident from the UK and EU governments that are under severe economic crisis in the recent years and hence require skilled people for the recovery of the current state of condition.
