Different organizations have different strokes in implementing safety management techniques. What are the common and best practices widely used today? Although there is no perfect company, there would always be commonalities among the needs of the workers in whatever industry. With regard to the implications of the reward system, do they really aid in boosting job performance in the long-term process? Are there limitations that must be imposed in giving rewards? What considerations must be taken in giving bonuses or gifts to employees aside from high salaries?

It has been a culture among companies that there are workers who would be more motivated when extra merits are provided for a job well done. But controversies arise as to who should be rewarded for the project accomplished. Should the approach be individualized or group recognition would be fine? What biases and possible conflicts are at stake as to who should take the credit? Are managers trained to make sound judgments in rewarding the people? What good and bad points can we learn from certain safety programs that may be given?

Are simple “thank you” and frequent “pat on the back” good enough to recognize an efficient worker? How can people’s morale be elevated by the company’s merit system? Behaviour is noticeable when gifts are tangibly seen. The appetite of the worker to give his best is challenged when rewards are given based on how he performs in the scope of his work. For a repeated-performing employee, what would satisfy his ego when being given rewards? Should bonuses be varied or can be the same thing for a particular quota reached?

What approaches can be employed in generating quality work aside from mere incentives? Every employee may have varying attitudes toward various reward systems. Workers at first are in a wait-and-see strategy if the management is really serious in providing bonuses if an employee delivers what is expected from him. These topics will be the core of this paper as it discusses the ins and outs of the safety management programs in organizations using common safety incentives in the workplace.
