Utiliscan case analysis (An Essay) Paper Summary This paper is about a case analysis with regard to the employee motivation at Utiliscan. It depicts the importance of the employee motivation in correlation with productivity and the manager’s role in keeping the employees motivation remains intact upon doing their respective works or jobs. As the paper describes the situation at Utiliscan, it also provides motivation strategies and the motivational plan for the company. Introduction Considering the fact that the company has a tight financial constrictions, Paul should have focused on the problems that are experienced within the company and in the workplace environment. Lack of trainings among the employees would necessarily mean that there will be no improvement in the workforce, according to the eighty-nine percent, that would at the end, hinder promotions. These are some of the factors that would lessen the motivation of the employees with their work. Another thing that needs to be given proper attention is on the part of the competitive employees whose working so hard and efficiently but not given the proper and deserving salaries. It is the relationship of the salaries versus the performance which can demoralize employees who is performing well in their jobs but the payment is not according to the seventy-four percent of the survey. Strict supervision among the workplace in the company is also a problem that needs to be addresses as it has being manifested in the seventy-eight percent of the employees. Favoritism among the employees are also regarded as not good on the part of the company and benefits should be equally regarded and must also looked upon well according to fifty-four percent of the survey held by Paul. One of the main problems that needs to be given due course is the safety of the employees according to the forty-five percent of the survey result among the employees. These employees claim that they felt not being safe and satisfied with the health conditions in the workplace. Not being safe on the part of the employees or danger in the workplace would definitely be an accountability of the company. The best way to do business on the part of the company is to keep their employees safe from harm and danger. Without the satisfaction on the part of the employees with regard to their health would hold back or obstruct employee’s performance that would hinder them submitting their best in the company. Motivation Strategies One of the main jobs of a manager specifically in the workplace is to assure that things concerning the company must be done through the employees and to be able to attain this, managers are responsible to motivate the employees to get things done. In spite of the big number of research that was done inline with motivation of the employees with their work, the subject is still absurd or not clearly understood and in the process poorly practiced. Motivation, to be able to understand, must deal on the understanding of the human nature and there where the problems were usually manifested. The reality about the human nature lies on the fact that it can be very simple and up the same time can be very complex too. Learning the appreciation and understanding of the human nature is considered as a prerequisite to effectively motivate the workforce in the workplace and in achieving this, vial requirement on the part of the company is to have an effective management and leadership (ACCEL team development, 2011). There are several motivational strategies that the managers could be considered in dealing with the problems in the company and the managers must necessarily be aware of the advantages as well as the disadvantages of each. It is relevant on the part of the manager how to effectively motivate the workers in the workforce to be efficient. How does the effectiveness would vary from certain situations to another? 1. Team work. Most of the managers are forming work groups to lower the level on the peer pressure. This is found to be an effective means of motivation 2. Personal involvement. An employee who sets their own performance usually tries to meet their own expectations. It is important for an employee or to the peer group to make a verbal commitment with regard to their work. Maybe, this is because of the reason that when a person made public commitments, it is seen to be like promises that must be delivering on time. 3. Work enhancement. One of the difficulties regarding this type of motivational strategy is that the workers or the employees are demanding for the adequate compensation to their work. 4. Rewards. This is given not to everyone but only to the deserving employee who have been efficient enough to receive rewards. Some employee prefers the increase in the salary. 5. Mutual exchange. A supervisor may allow the employee to go home after finishing completely the work expected of him within the day 6. Competitive measures. In this type of motivational strategy, employees are competing with themselves to be able to avail of the incentives like bonuses and certain prizes. These employee motivation strategies focus on how to praise, acknowledge and give positive feedback. It may feel uncomfortable at first, or even excessive, but positive reinforcement is a highly effective, inexpensive and empowering way to achieve employee motivation. Motivational Plan Considering that the company has a small budget, it is but natural that the effort in the strengthening be doubled on the part of the company in the motivation of the staff to be more productive and in making the most out of the limited sources. Motivation of the employee is earned by the company and it does not come naturally but luckily, this could be learned through a little investment of patience, time, and persistence. A manager creates performance in each employee by speeding up the reaction between the employee’s talents and the company’s goals, and between the employee’s talents and the customers’ needs. It is necessary for the managers to create a motivational plan. To be able to be an effective agent of change without compromising the company’s bottom lines, managers must be serious and have a deliberate thought and actions. It should always be remembered that motivation is not a manipulation. Good managers must work hard at helping people and must lead the employees in showing motivation during work. In developing a motivational plan, it is important to know the things that could really motivate the managers and the staff or the employees. Certain steps could be a beginning like the brainstorming among the employees and the managers and ask the directly what could motivate them to be an efficient employee. It would also be better to ask them and to recall incidents wherein they are able to work in the workplace efficiently and motivated. Money is not considered as a motivator but a secondary factor in shaping motivation among the employees in the workplace. Most of the managers forget that sincere appreciation for the job well done can be a better motivator compared to financial matter. The ultimate motivational goal must include on how the mangers would be helped motivating all the staff and the work teams. Motivations among the employees must be lead and started to be seen at the managerial levels and the seriousness about the role of motivation must be felt and manifested in the whole department (Joss, M. 2003). Draft Plan 1. Perform an evaluation about: Employee development Trainings Motivation among the employees Safety of employees Improvement in the compensation Promotion and opportunities Benefits Organizational problems Disciplinary actions Ensure the updating of job description 2. Performance evaluation The performance evaluation must be done in proper place, in the right timing, and with friendly atmosphere 3. Providing feedback 4. Evaluation errors 5. administration Conclusion Keeping and strengthening the motivation of the employees now days is very vital on the part of the company. The culture of just sitting back and freely allowing the work to happen without proper guidance are gone. Appropriate structured motivation plan is very important and it involves all the parties including those in the higher position in a company. Constant assessment, feedback, incentives and the willingness and the ability to change are all a part of this plan. It is believed by most of the higher ranking personnel that this could be an initial step in expanding the boundaries of performance. If the plan is implemented and changes happen within the workforce in the workplace, rewards and benefits will be enjoyed by the employees same way on the part of the company and the whole organization will benefit. Motivation is considered to be the key to a successful business. References Moore, D. (1991). 7 Motivational strategies.
