Management thinking Introduction There is a stiff competition in today’s global market. Every brand in Australia is concerned about the new forms of e-business. This enables the businesses to create good network so as to reach their consumers. The advancement of the technology has really helped the managements to develop new ways of solving the problems that they encounter in their professions. This however calls for critical or strategic thinking, this is thinking widely or from different perspectives about a decision before taking it. It can also be known as long term planning about a project and enables the management to plan ahead or be proactive. Strategic thinking bridges the gap between the present performance of an organization and the objectives it sets for the future by accomplishing the responsibilities. Thus this kind of thinking gives the participants the ability to know the lifecycle of planning through use of experience to assist in prospect action and deciding the best practices to be incorporated in the daily operations. This area is very sensitive and requires people with excellent knowledge of the field. Most of the well established identities like Australia have gurus who research on the best factors that the management should put onto considerations before taking actions so as to ensure that their decisions are effective to their work (Lazear, Edward p 99-146) Current ‘gurus’ that are influencing management thinking today in Australia and/or overseas So as to boost the financial status, the Australia and other top identities are concentrating on the internationalization of business starting from the trading companies to the banks. This means having more businesses hence the need to have well developed strategies in the internationalization of management. There are many experts or gurus who are concerned about providing thoughts or relationships in management. For example, in May 2002, the Institute for Strategic Change at Accenture (ISCA) undertook a wide analysis to determine the most effective business scholars. The following year a list of the 50 top intellectuals was released and they could lead the whole business world (Denslow p 23-34). The areas where these philosophers mostly concentrated on includes: the business managements, public relations, strategic planning and so on by providing outstanding guidance in the human resource organization and policy development. Many of these gurus have published articles on management and other business related practices. The board in the ISCA also went further and provided a list of the top ten gurus in the business world. These are people who are prominent and most effective in the running of the top international organizations and management of the world’s top identities like the America (Robert Reich p 234-250). Robert Reich is one of those considered to be in the list of the top ten. Currently he is working in the University of California at Berkeley as a professor of Public Policy. Before joining this profession he served in other national administrations like: being the author of twelve books including the one about The Work of Nations, Locked in the Cabinet and the most recent about Super capitalism and then worked as the Secretary of Labour under the government of President Bill Clinton (William Thompson 234-345). He writes some articles in the national publications about the most sensitive areas in the present Obama’s government. For example, on Monday, April 12, 2010, he published an article about The Future of American Jobs in which he advices the government to try to create at least 300,000 jobs per month so as to take at least five to eight years before getting back to the status they were in before the recession began. On Tuesday, April 13, this year, he wrote a publication on The Republican Strategy on Financial Reform; Make Democrats Look likes Patsies for the Street. He discusses why the present Senate Republicans debuted their new strategy for financial reforms and refuses to combine with the Democrats on the arguments that the Dems are prepared to give the Wall Streets what it wants. The following day he discussed his most recent piece about the outsourced jobs and the median income in the Wall Street Journal. On April 16, he published an article advising the government on the only applicable way of preventing another Bailout of Wall Street. He argues that the concern body should work hard to restrict the size of the Wall Street Banks (New York Times April 2010). So as to ensure that his advice to the republic is effective, Robert Reich does not concentrate on advising the government but also addresses the citizens. On Tuesday, April 20 this year, he published an article on the title; A Short Citizen’s to Reforming Wall Street in which he discussed the three most essential aspects to look into so as to prevent the repeat of the Wall Street meltdown. He argued that: all the derivatives be done on open exchanges where by all those involved displays what they are exchanging and should have enough money to pay if their bets do not succeed. He also argued that the Glass-Steagall Act be resurrected which states that the commercial banks be separated from the investment banks and be allowed to take deposits and lend money, thus they should not be limited to the stock market. The last aspect was that a bill should be formed which should limit the size of banks. This develops a process of winding down the operations of any bank that is in trouble (Kao, Christopher 2009). Robert also did a research on the importance of getting Wall Street out of Washington and Washington out of Wall Street and published his arguments in the newspaper on Sunday, April 25 this year. He is expected to discuss a very sensitive issue on Sunday, April 29, 2010 on the topic, Rethinking Employment-The Shifting Labour Landscape. Another guru is Daniel Goleman who is also known as the guru of green. He was a journalist and an author of the best seller Emotional intelligence which reveals the hidden environmental consequences of what we make and buy and also displays how new market forces can lead to changes necessary to reform the whole world. He wrote an annual special issue on the Time's 10 Ideas Changing the World Right Now in which he discussed the time features ecological intelligence as one of the ten ideas of changing the world right away (Daniel Goleman p 12-57). Hal Varian is another guru who was considered among the top most scholars. He is currently a professor of University of California in the school of information the Haas School of Business. On 3rd January this year, he delivered a speech about the 2010 Ely Lecture at the American Economic Association meetings. He was awarded a Humboldt prize by Alexander von Humboldt Foundations and his paper Positions Auctions won Paul Gerowski prize as the best article which was published in the International Journal of Industrial Organization in 2006. His book Information rules was recorded in the Fortune Magazine as one of the 75 smartest books on business strategy. Michael porter is a professor in the Harvard Business School and also an expert in the business strategy. He pioneered a research project about studies competition and its implications for company strategy, solutions to social problems and the competitiveness of nations, which was carried out in the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School. The results were later disseminated to scholars and practitioners on a global basis (Habermas Jurgen p2). Peter Ducker as the business philosopher and a consultant for over 50years is not left out in the list. He concentrates on finding out the secrets behind a fully successful business by doing research and writing books and scholarly popular articles on how people are organized across the business, government and the non-profit making organizations. His past records have predicted the performance or developments in the business including decentralization and privatisation. He had commented on the rise of Japan to economic world power and the emergence of information technology to the society and its impacts in the long life learning and later predicted that the knowledge work productivity be the next frontier in management. His profession was facilitated by the fact that he was brought up in a royal family where many government officials were meeting and philosophers of the time would meet to discuss new ideas. He really admired their talks and worked hard to become like them. He started formulating hypothesis and research on them, for example, why things were the way they are and the factors that facilitates the success of some activities like the profit making organizations. His information is still referred to in today management of organization. These are some of the thinkers used to influence today’s management thinking because there information is up to date. For example, Robert Rierch who worked in the government of America as the secretary of labour stood a good chance to do the research concerning the performance of governance and how to improve it. The philosophers help in the government decision making by advancing it on well researched opinions. The government and the international businesses needs guidance on things which can help them fit in the stiff competition in the business world. There is the global economic crisis and the government of every nation is working hard to improve its performance especially in the financial status. So many people have the skills to work but there are no opportunities to utilise them this is because the relevant government have no financial capabilities to employ their citizens. The philosophers help them to discover ways of creating job opportunities so as to boost the standards of living of the citizens. Social factors relevant to the changes in management thinking The effective development of management thinking is facilitated by many social factors. These factors include the development of the technology which has really boosted the communication network. There is a wide communication network connecting many people in large geographical areas as large as the continents or even the whole world. Also the changing technology has brought improvement in the market trade and output as a whole. Through the use of the technology China is pronounced as the most upcoming market in the world. It is able to steadily increase the number of the consumers within a very short time hence improving the productivity and output (Reich Robert p 123-135). Labour relation is another factor which has also facilitated the development in management. For example, in China the labour law enables the enterprise to recruit staff with the relevant requirements. Employees can be recruited through agencies such as newspapers, TV stations and so on. These factors are able to boost management thinking because they are available in the market and concern everybody in the market and connect the world to be like one thing. People and organizations are able to share ideas and various ways of solving problems. Government is the most advantageous because it very much requires sharing ideas with other government for effective leadership. Conclusion There is need for critical management thinking. This is because everything including oneself calls for perfect management so as to easily achieve the goals and objectives set. Every manager should bear the qualities of an excellent leader including a well developed management thinking so as to be able to make effective decisions of the organization under management. The government as the body managing the whole nation should be well organised and careful when taking the decisions in their management. Some of the well established nations like Australia have allowed the gurus who influence the decisions of the government or the management of the top businesses for effective development of the financial status which is the factor mostly used to analyse the performance of the nation.
