CASE PLAN Name Institution Introduction Case management is an important concept that is used for providing interventions to people involved in social issues such as crime and drug abuse. The interventions are usually made possible through the use of different models that are in place. The nature of the problem facing an individual determines the model that can be used for the intervention. The intervention model requires the support from stakeholders such as the justice system and the treatment system (Roberts, 2013). This is considering that the problem facing the individuals may require treatment and rehabilitation. The paper is a case management related to an individual known as Joanne who uses heroine and was found stealing at a shopping center. Comparison and Contrast Joanne has a problem of drug addiction, stealing and causing violence. Treatment Alternative to Street Crime (TASC) is one of the models that can be used for the purposes of providing assistance to Joanne. This model links crime to drug abuse which is also the case for Joanne. The model requires various resources which aim at ensuring that it is successful. The justice system is linked with the treatment when using this model (Rapp, Van Den Noortgate, Broekaert & Vanderplasschen, 2014). It requires several organizational as well as operational elements for it to be successful. A lot of support is required from the justice system in order to facilitate the continuous communication process. A link has to be created between the justice system and the treatment system through the establishment of a protocol in order to deal with the addiction and steal problem that Joanne has. An administrator as well as a number of staff members will be required to carry out the process. A lot of data will have to be collected in order to facilitate the process. Physical tests will also be carried out on the client to determine the levels of drug use. The client will have to be retained in the treatment through the use of criminal leverage. Technology may also be used for the purposes of monitoring the client through the use of this method. The use of this model has been successful in terms of dealing with the women offenders (James, Stams, Asscher, De Roo & van der Laan, 2013). It will however require a lot of coordination between different personnel. Prison inmates who have a history of drug addiction and crimes such as stealing may have a lot of difficulties in terms of reintegrating back to the society. As a result of this, they always find themselves going back to drugs or crime. The situation for the client may be the same as she has a history of drugs. Assertive community treatment model can be used for the client as its will have future benefits. This model does not require much linkage between the justice system and the treatment system as in the case of TASC. However, it requires a multidisciplinary team to carry out different process (Scott & Dennis, 20120). This therefore means that a lot of coordination will be between the multi disciplinary team. The model does not require much resources in terms of the personnel and hence its cost effectiveness. The counselors may however require some access to the instrumental support for the clients. This is important as the client is a single mother and does not have a steady source of income. The client may also be required to join the support groups when this method is used. It therefore requires a lot of interactions between the clients and the other people with similar problems. A face to face contact between the client and the counselors is important during the process (Miller, Copeland & Sullivan, 2015). This means that resources have to be provided for the purpose of ensuring that the counselors are able to visit the clients on a daily basis. Assertive community treatment model requires a multimodal and holistic approach to treatment. This means that the approach will focus on different aspects so as to meet the needs of the client. A comprehensive approach is requiring when using this method which is the same when using the TASC model. A lot of focus is however on the treatment of the clients and information on how they can integrate with the other members of the society. The outreach of this model is mainly on the community as compared to the other aspects of treatment. This plays an important role in ensuring that the client is able to reform. Continuous monitoring of the client is required when using the assertive Community treatment model and TASC (Guydish, Chan, Bostrom, Jessup, Davis & Marsh, 2011). The continuous monitoring may have financial impacts and hence an increase in the use of resources. Program for assertive community treatment model is also one of the models that can be used for the client. This model has a lot of similarities with the Assertive community model. However, it includes a high number of personnel such as nurses, social workers and psychiatrists. This model has a high level of efficiency and hence its popularity. The model is suitable for the clients with high needs as well as those who do not have high needs. In terms of resource use, it may require a high number of resources as due to the number of personnel required to carry out the activities. This method a los places a lot of focus on the community. The rehabilitation model is also useful in addressing the needs of the individuals. This model is mainly focused on improving the functioning areas that have not been addressed by the other methods. When using this method, the individual goals and objectives are used for guiding the process as opposed to the goals of the system. The client will be required to set her own goals of rehabilitation that will guide the process. This model does not require much resource in terms of the personnel as compared to the other methods. Face to face contact with the client is also important and it has to be carried out on a daily basis. This is for the purposes of ensuring that the client does not lose focus with regards to the set goals. The rehabilitation model places a lot of emphasis on the individuals as opposed to the community and other external factors (Roberts, 2013). This method has yielded positive results for those who are addicted to hard drugs. The rehabilitation model can be carried out easily without involving a high number of personnel. However, unlike the TASC model, personal commitment is required during the process. The client will not be forced to carry out the activities but it will instead require the activities to be carried out in a voluntary manner. This method is friendly to the clients as it creates a free environment for rehabilitation. Case Note Joanne Maison is a 22 year old single mother and was found stealing baby food and nappies at lakeside Shopping Centre. She was physically and verbally abuse towards the security guards at the shopping centre. However, she was cooperative towards the police after they arrived. Upon further search, she was found with a small amount of heroine and $ 220. The items that she had stolen were values at $ 52. Joanne had earlier been issues with Cannabis infringement notice four years ago. She is on a single parent payment and lives with her brother. Joanne currently does not have any other record of offending. The client therefore has a history with the use of drugs which may be an indication that she is an addict and requires intervention. The use of drugs is linked to crime which could explain why she was stealing at the shopping center. Joanne also seems to have a social problem due to her family background. The case management can be helpful to her for the purposes of rehabilitation. Joanne therefore requires help in order to ensure that she is reformed and able to live a better life. Risks and Protective Action The intervention process is likely to face several risks due to the nature of the situation facing the client. Lack of adequate resources is one of the risks that any affect the process. In most cases, the intervention methods require the efforts of a multidisciplinary team in order for the operations to be carried out successfully. Some of the professional may be required to travel from other areas to the facility in order to carry out the intervention process. Transport may be required on a daily basis and hence increasing the expenses. This is an indication that the process may end up being unsuccessful if adequate funds are not provided. In order to deal with this risk, a proper management plan needs to be put in place so as to ensuring all the sources of funding are known. It is also important to involve different stakeholders during the process so as to ensure it is successful. Working in partnership with different organization is useful in ensuring that the resources are increased and hence dealing with the problem of lack of adequate finances (Hendricks, Clark, Johnson, Fontaine & Cropsey, 2014). It is also recommended that the all the sources of financing should be identified in advance before the process begins. The process is also likely to face a risk of lack of cooperation on the part of the clients. Most of the people who are addicted to drugs and those who have a record of committing crimes are usually in denial. Most of them usually justify their action based on various reasons. Addiction is also a difficult problem that is difficult to deal with. The client may therefore end up resisting the intervention process and hence failing to realize the goal of the process. This problem presents the greatest risk to the entire process. The risk can be prevented through the provision of adequate information to the client with regards to the process. The professionals should focus on ensuring that the client feels that the process is for their own good and not a punishment (Schwalbe, Gearing, MacKenzie, Brewer & Ibrahim, 2012). The professionals are usually required to maintain high levels of professional standards in order to ensure that the resistance from the client is reduced. It is recommended that a proper communication process should be enhanced in order to create a free environment for interacting with the client. The client should be made to feel free so as to reduce any form of resistance. It is also recommended that the client should be encouraged to develop their own goals so as to develop a sense of ownership to the process. Lack of sufficient training and skills on the part of the personnel may impact negatively on the process. The case manager in some instances may not have adequate training and this has the potential of affecting the outcome. The case managers in some instances may have a lot of work due to the heavy workload and hence making it difficult for them to carry out the processes effectively. According to most of the research, a high number of case managers are usually young and inexperienced (Hanson, Letourneau, Olver, Wilson& Miner, 2012). This poses a risk to the process as the client may fail to get the full benefits of the process. It is recommended that the training of the personnel should be carried out before the training. Training is important in terms of equipping the personnel with adequate skills required to carry out the process. The training should however be carried out in a coordinated manner so as to ensure that it does not take too much time. It is recommended that the personnel should be trained for a period of at least two days before the process. An evaluation process should also be carried out for the purposes of ensuring that the training is useful to the personnel. It is recommended that the Treatment alternative street model should be used as an intervention method for the client. This model is recommended since it deals with the issues of crime as well as drug abuse (Sacks, Chaple, Sacks, McKendrick & Cleland, 2012). The client has a problem with the use of drugs as well as stealing which is a crime. The client requires an intervention that will enable her to stop the use of drugs as well as stealing which may impact negatively on her future. This is also considering that she has a young child who depends on her. Reintegrating back to the society may be difficult for the client and hence the need for the intervention method. TASC enables the clients to obtain information that may be useful in terms of integrating back to the society. The use of drugs by the client is associated with the crime that she committed. Her violent behavior is also linked to the use of drugs. The intervention will therefore be useful in meeting the needs of the client. Conclusion In conclusion, it is evident that there are some differences as well as similarities when it comes to the intervention models. The differences in the models are as a result of the resources that are required for the implementation process. It is evident that Joanne has a drug problem which is related to crime as she was caught stealing at the local shipping center. The TASC intervention model is recommended in the case of Joanne. It is also evident that risks may be encountered during the intervention process. The risks involve resistance from the clients and lack of adequate resources.
