The paper “The Most Impressive Fires in UK History” is an exciting example of a finance & accounting case study. The new London school explosion incident took place on March 18th, 1937 at 1505 hours in Rusk country in Texas (McDonald, 2008) The incident occurred when an industrial teacher plugged a sander that generated a spark that ignited the natural gas (McDonald, 2008)Spread of the fireA gas line that the school had tapped to use for providing heating needs developed leakage that filled all the classrooms at New London School.

The incident was a flashover as natural odorless gas had filled the classrooms (McDonald, 2008)Failed measures to prevent the incidentThe natural gas was odorless and the school community was not able to determine its leakage although children had complained of headaches before the incident occurred. The school management didn’t carry a fire risk assessment that could have determined possible weak areas of the pipe that could have predisposed the gas leakage. The natural gas provider didn’t ensure the gas had odors that could be detected as a measure to avoid incidents associated with the risk of odorless natural gas (McDonald, 2008)Lessons learned from the incidentThere is a need for natural gas to be added odors that could be used as indicators of its leakages in order to prevent recurrence of the incident (McDonald, 2008)Outcomes of the incident and recommendationsThe incident led to changes in legislation that required natural gases to have odor additives that could inform users of possible leakages (McDonald, 2008)2 The Warwick fire incidentOverview of the incidentThe fire incident occurred at 1400 hours in Warwick, England in the year 1694 and cause damages that were estimated at $100,000 (Borsay, 1694).

Cause of the incidentThe fire incident was caused by a spark from a kindling torch that had been carried from one house into another and accidentally set a thatched roof on fire (Farr, 1992).Mechanism of the spread of the fireThe fire was fueled by strong winds and spread through abundant fuel load that was provided by narrowly spaced old dry timber-framed houses (Wikipedia, n.d.).
