Project Management Paper ID Lecturer a. What is a project? A project is the quantified sum of objectives that need to be completed in a given amount of time by the project team. A project basically comprises of the tasks that are not usually covered by the organization on a consistent basis. However these tasks are bracketed under the project domains in order to speed up the completion processes and thus align the resources of the project to look after the end results in a measured way. A project is usually headed by a project manager who is basically responsible for getting all the project team members on board.
He makes sure that no missing link is present within the project schedules and if there is any, he goes out of his way to fix the problem. Since the project domains are heavily reliant on strict deadlines and timelines, the projects usually either end as successful ones or complete failures. There is a no middle route for these projects in essence. A project therefore takes into consideration the needs and requirements of the organization at that moment in time.
It looks after the priorities and hence sets the ball rolling. The work schedules for the regular processes get affected but this in no way means to suggest that projects should be done away with. Projects are the lifeblood of any organization and these must be given the significance that these richly deserve. As a worker in the meat processing plant, I have understood the importance of projects and would vouch for them at any given time. b. What are the basic phases of the project lifecycle and their purposes? The basic phases of the project lifecycle comprise of the different steps that would be given significance by the project team members as long as they are in the middle of meeting their project objectives and looking after the needs and requirements as jotted down in the beginning.
It is imperative to comprehend the fact that the project lifecycle usually has the phases of initiation, planning, execution and closure. What this means is that a project kicks off with the initiation phase, then goes towards the planning route, gets executed and finally closure happens when the project comes to an end.
It is in this closure stage that the success or failure of the project is decided upon. The purposes of the different phases are important as these define the very basis of the project lifecycle in essence (Browne 2000). All of these phases outline the need for having consistency within the ranks of the project team so that the end results could be attained without much issue at the project team’s end.
An element of persistence is required in order to understand the need of having unity in command because this will move the project lifecycle from one phase to another and lock down on issues which are deemed as pivotal right from the beginning to the end. Hence the project lifecycle is important as its different phases bring forth the element of significance for the project that is being undertaken by the organization. This will have a lasting impact on the project itself. c. Why is it important for organizations to use project management to accomplish tasks? It is very quintessential for organizations to make the best use of project management because these are short-term in nature and hence bring out the best value for all concerned.
The tasks get accomplished in a quick way and without much hassle. The vision of a project marks the very basis for speeding up things which is a blessing if seen from a right stance. The organizations of present times have generally understood the need for having a sound project management regime in place because this will lead to consistency and upholding of quality on different levels within the organization itself.
Thus in order to have maximum productivity ranks within the organization, it is always desirable to give as many resources to the project team as there could possibly be. The organizations of today have understood that in order to accomplish tasks which are deemed as different yet significant will be heavily dependent on the way the employees conduct themselves within the domains of the projects themselves. It is important to have sound project teams and appoint the right person to head the project because this will have a hugely significant say within the midst of things, as far as projects are concerned.
In order for organizations to compete within the relevant industrial levels on a head on basis, project scheduling and completion activities are deemed as the most significant. I have learnt this through my work routines in the meat processing plant. I can safely say that projects form the backbone of any organization and hence these should be given the importance that these warrant.
